sounds to me like the shop who replaced the humbucker did not rewax the pickup when they swapped the humbucker inside the cover and back plate which would account for the 'hollow' sound when tapping on it.

I was thinking about doing this myself, but NO WAY. Wait? Maybe its not as bad as I think? It’s all done at the Pots? I may be able to do this after all.

Hey man Thanks for your comment! And I’m guessing so if they are Gibson ones from a LP it would sound like a Les Paul but it’s worth a go if you are gonna try it!

I put a JB in the bridge of my Strat, along with a 500K volume pot, thinking I was going to transform my guitar into this all-purpose machine. Think about it! Authentic, single coil, neck pick up tones! Bridge and middle quack! Middle! And then I get a full, roaring humbucker for meaty, aggressive riffs and soaring leads! How could I go wrong?!?!? Well, needless to say, it doesn't really work. Can I do Nirvana? Sure. But that's about it. It still sounds like a Strat. Only now, it's gimped, because I've lost two classic Strat tones and gained... what exactly? A classic, JB in the bridge tone? That's not a classic tone! lol. That's just some weird hybrid, half-assed attempt to make a Strat not sound like a Strat! haha. So now, I'm going to take it out back out, revert my guitar to stock, and just buy something that was designed for humbuckers instead and have two guitars for two different things. I truly believe we're all better off doing that instead of trying to build a Swiss army knife.
