Hey y'all, realize that the editing in the first portion of the video gets a little confusing, please let me know if you have any questions! And I did manage to get a replacement set of rubber feet! In order to do so, you can do the following: 1) Sign into Microsoft's website, go to your account page 2) Go to your devices, and find your Surface Laptop. If it's not there, select Add a Device and input your Surface's serial number 3)Next to "Get Service for your Device" select "Start Order" 4)Select Category > "Accessory" and Issue Type > "Misc" and in the form, type "Need replacement rubber feet for Surface Laptop". Once you press next, it should start an order for the replacement feet. Mine were $5 with free shipping, but my Laptop is under warranty, so YMMV. Good luck!

T4 Torx for me. I've watched a number of similar videos and they usually recommend the T3 however, a number of people have stripped the head of the screw. I suspect that the T3 is recommended because it does fit. It's just that it doesn't fit as well as the T4. So, if you do have a T4 Torx, start with that and only use the T3 if the T4 is too big.

Since you are providing basically a HOW TO video, why not show the HOW TO in the larger portion of the video instead of a tiny PIP window. Most if not all KZbin videos have the person off tot he side in a PIP frame while working on the device so that people can see what you are actually doing. just a suggestion I am sure someone else may have pointed it out. Hey, on the Surface Laptop 4 in particular, what size screw driver did you use, on the back rubber feet, and on the SSD in particular? I really wonder what the difference between no thermal paste and repasting to the heatsink is. I have made some tests on external NVME drives and if not connected to a heatsink they overheat throttle like crazy. Probably not here, but I wonder if repasting makes any difference. Anyway useful video as always
@innoiso3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was wondering the same. The aluminum shell of the SSD is too small to dissipate any heat, but there is a small conductive sticker on the back of the Surface Pro's that I assume is meant to transfer the heat to the frame of the Surface.

Any write-up on installing Win10 or 11 from a USB? I looked into that a while back and it all seemed to revolve around setting up a Microsoft account, which then changed some stuff on my PC and took me a while to get rid of and then I gave up on swapping hard drives. If I buy a brand new Surface, what is the cleanest way to install Windows to a new SSD?

Hey innoiso, loved the video and wanted to ask for advice, I am from Israel and they don't sell the surface devices here (no official importer), which is why my brother bought for me the surface pro 8 in germany. I wanted LTE connectivity so we ordered the business model with 256 gb ssd, I wanted more ssd but because of the LTE and i7 configuration- 256 gb ssd was the top maximum I could get. I never upgraded ssd storage in my life or done any changes to a computer whatsoever which is why I'm afraid to cause damage and harm the device, but because I saw your video and it really does look simple to upgrade the ssd storage on the surface pro 8 I was wondering if I should try it myself. My surface is supposed to arrive in 2 weeks from now and I assume it would be better to make an upgrade such as this as soon as it arrives or as soon as possible in order to spare the headache of managing files afterwards in case I would like to make an upgrade such as this in the future. So what do you suggest, should I try and give it a go? 1 Tb is what I would go for, and I wanted to know where you got your chip from, ebay or amazon? (Because there are 2 links in the description). Also was wondering about the thermal paste because I saw some comments about it. if I go for it and try to upgrade, should I get the paste and apply it? I haven't seen you do so in the video and if required don't know how to do so myself, what do you suggest? Would love to get a response from you, thank you in advance!
@innoiso2 жыл бұрын
Hey, I appreciate the comment. If you want to do this once and as professionally as possible, then go with a new SSD from Amazon, and then buy any CPU thermal paste like Arctic Silver, and just use a TINY drop on the top of the SSD before putting the case on. Put it in, drop on a fresh copy of Windows, and you're done

I took my SSD(I think it is PCIe3 when the SP8 spec can handle PCIe4) out using a Torx T4 screwdriver. You can pick that up at Ace Hardware for $3. I recommended taking the SP8(mine is graphite, i5,16GB, 256SSD bought Jan 2022) with you as some website told me to use a smaller Torx T3 that did not work for my specific SP8. I put new thermal paste on mine. Glad to have a WD 1TB SSD though only PCIe3 is only available currently, and didn't test for speed improvement afterwards but I would not benchmark it to save writing on my SSD.
