Upgrading to E36 M3 Brakes

In this video I finally address the brakes on the E36 328i. Since I swapped the trailing arms and kingpins to those from the E36 M3 it means I can now use the bigger brake calipers, rotors, and pads originally installed on the E36 M3. In this case over the 328i Sedan stock equipment I get vented rear rotors (also larger) and larger front rotors along with larger pads. Overall, this is an easy job and it's nice to see all the new parts installed on the car.
Parts installed:

Torque specs:
Front caliper carrier to kingpin - 110Nm
Front caliper guide pin to carrier - 25-30Nm
Rear caliper carrier to trailing arm - 65Nm
Rear caliper guide pin to carrier - 25-30Nm
Brake rotor set screw - 16Nm
Brake hose to caliper - 19Nm
Brake hose to hard line - 18Nm

Excellent video as usual. Also appreciate your attention to detail that you remind us of, such as the copper antifreeze etc. This helps to make for a truly pro job.

Thank you sir. Stopped using brake grease a long time ago. The copper anti seize does a really nice job. With the brass guide pin bushings it's a requirement.

Do you have M3 rear trailing arms? I was under the impression M3 Brakes won't fit on non M cars?

1:33 This part is from e46 3.0 Diesel.? Ohh, You put front ones, I have rear M3 Brakes, one guy told me If I get that part from e46 3.0 Diesel I can instal M3 Brakes.

Did you feel your pedal travel dip lower a bit? I "upgraded" to e36 330 fronts and e46 325 rears. My brake pedal went lower a bit. I got to brake more now to Heel Toe. Thinking of swapping to the e36 m3 brake booster.

I've noticed no change in pedal travel or pedal feel. The front caliper size is the most notable thing on the swap compared to the standard 328i brakes. With that said it pretty much feels the same as it did before. I don't plan on upgrading the hydraulic side of things until I install an MK60 ABS unit.

@@GarethFoley for a brake upgrade on E36 non m3 Is it just rotors and calibers ? are is that just for the 328 models because the hub size being the same ?

@@jeffreyalanthrasybule4357 front knuckle swap from a m3 and m3 rear trailing arms which will require to swap to m3 output flanges on your diff since the m3 uses larger axles

Hello guys! Do u know if I can install e36 m3 rotors with e36 m3 carriers and calipers at rear on a e36 328 with non-m trailing arms? I have removed the parking brake so… It’s possible?

No, not possible. Carrier size spacing between the carrier bolt holes is different.

need some advice bro...have a non m e36 with stock calipers and rotors...i want to change to m3 calipers.

At minimum you need front knuckles from an E36 M3. The caliper carrier bolt spacing is different so it would not mate up with the standard E36 knuckles. I am pretty sure there are no fitment issues on the rear trailing arm. Optional but not required is updating the master cylinder to that of the E36 M3. I ran my stock 328i master cylinder with these brakes and it felt fine. The recommendation to do this is because of the 6mm piston size increase of the front calipers.

@@Branzy1993 All good. I've missed comments from months back somehow (just noticing today) so I get it. Front knuckles, front calipers, brake rotors, front brake lines, and mounting hardware. Everything else remains the same more or less.

@@GarethFoley Does this conversion affect coilovers? I've read that the m3 coilover are different from 328, what do you need to mount the m3 coilovers as well?

@@Xtcent In this case no. Some manufacturers specify different coilovers/struts between M3's and non M3's but that doesn't have to do with the lower mount as much as it has to do with different spring rates/damping.
