Peter - I did the same, used my actual product key in step 3 but still had to activate with the same product key after the reboot - strange how the same thing can work out differently sometimes you just never know what nuance will pop-up or not.

Thank you for saving me a bunch of time waiting for Microsoft tech support to never get back to me via my reseller. However it'd be cool if you put your command in there without the extra formatting. It ends up being garblygook when you try and paste into a CMD or powershell. I typed it manually and it worked just fine. Thanks again.

My problem now is that I burned the ISO into a hard drive then installed it on another hard drive but when removing the installation hard drive it wont boot! any ideas how to fix this?

Okay I'm following what you did and I got there which was all really easy until right at the end and I have the same error message you have right up on the screen where I can't find the activation server. Could you cover that? Or could someone else offer suggestion cuz I got that same problem. All the rest was easy

You need to enter a legit license key to activate it, the one he used is just to do the upgrade.

How long will it work un-activated once you switch it?

I haven't tested the un-activated one, but the evaluation period is for 6 months and you can renew it 5 times which is almost 3 years.

how about if its active directory installed server? can we do the same? as part of project we used windows 2022 eval. we build win datacenter, hyperv then in vm DC and file server/ all are evaluation version? what to do now? rebuild all? if so im doomed

Go to Linux. This is the Microsoft way: make you do everything twice.

I just followed these steps on my Windows 2022 Standard Domain Joined Eval edition (vSphere guest machine) server and everything worked as described here. Only difference was after the 3rd step where you enter the product key and agree to eula I got a message of completion and asked to reboot and I chose Y for Yes everything worked just fine. I then activated my server and all is good. Thanks to Tech For All for doing this. By the way I didnt listen to the very end and never disabled anything as you say and as Sal Man says below and everything worked successfully no issues.

This video will only help you to get the Full edition of Windows Server. For activating with a serial number you have to have your own serial number.
