G'day John, thank you so much for putting up these how to videos. I'm learning so much from them. I enjoy your no nonsense approach to showing us how to do these things. We keep up the great work, and we and I will be doing your DVD training package as soon as I get my machine figured out. Cheers from Australia mate.

These videos are great! I just bought my first compound feed machine and am still feeling it out. You said you are looking for new video ideas so I thought I would throw a couple your way. How to draw out a pattern when your old cover is garbage and you can't use it or because you have changed the shape of the foam. How to sew around curves so you do not get puckers..........this is so frustrating! You are really helpful in these videos and I can't wait for your new videos!

I really appreciate the positive feedback on the videos! Thanks for the video ideas! I already have those subjects filmed. They will be a part of the training series I am coming out with. I am in the process of editing it right now. More videos coming soon! Thanks Again!

Hi John, I'm about to sew up with curved needles the leather seat cushion of a leather recliner chair. "Rule of thumb," what simple formula do you use to determine how much thread you'll need to cover a certain length of area? So for example, if I have a 12 inch length that I have to sew with a curved needle, how can I simply determine how much thread that I'll need? 2x the length? 2.5x the length? 3x the length? Thanks for your help. Keep up the great work with your videos.
@Theluckyneedle6 жыл бұрын
You should be good with 2x the length but I always am over cautious and do more just to be sure.

Great info. I bought some inexpensive outdoor chairs that had cotton thread & fell apart 1st season. My dumb ass hand sewed them back together with fishing string

I purchased your apprentice course and getting set up by buying the threads. What color is Beaver color? (Sorry, I'm color blind)
@CoolAirVw8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for these videos. On a seat with an airbag does the thread need to be a different type to open up with the airbag? I really want to fix or recover the seats in my "fleet" so I'll probably be buying your video series. I allready bought a sewing machine and have tried some stitches based on what you taught.
@pirachaa5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Just wondering if you have find the answer? Is there special thread to use on seats with an airbag?
@fun_ghoul4 жыл бұрын
@@pirachaa I think you guys may be overthinking this. Have you ever seen an airbag detonate? LOL
@Yosetime6 ай бұрын
@@fun_ghoulhaha!! Good point! I've been terrified of having my airbag go off ever since that one safety meeting at work 20 years ago that said that short people like me who have to be up close and personal with the steering wheel in order to reach the gas petal can end up with ribs crushed into the heart and a broken face!! Then they showed a video of it. I've never been the same! Immediately switched my vehicle out for a Ford that had a telescoping gas petal! But I'm not driving that anymore and think about how dead I'm going to be if my airbag ever does detonate! It really does detonate!! Thread is of little consequence! You could use baler twine and it probably wouldn't make a bit of difference. So, excellent point there!

what is the best thread? The stuff at Tempe sales doesn't seem to be grade "A" quality. I think Keystone carries Coats, and it seems to bit a bit pricey, but then most of there products can be bought at other outlets.
@Theluckyneedle10 жыл бұрын
I use UV bonded polyester for most jobs. I buy coats from keyston or they also have their house brand called "round up" that's a little cheaper and is also made by coats but just has keystons name on it. Do you have a resale account with keystone? I never found their thread to be over priced. Also I strongly recommend not going cheep on thread because you will regret it if your jobs start failing a year down the road because the thread failed.
@BubaJ100010 жыл бұрын
The Lucky Needle Cheap thread, oh yea. I have some I bought off ebay, $4.00 for a 1/4 pound spool, it frays a lot and isn't much fun to practice with. It's 138 and I do have a #20 needle in the machine. It falls under that "you get what you pay for" catagory. I do have an account at Keystone, I carpet a lot of bass boats and their price on carpet is high compared to mesa sales. Thanks for answering me. Any vids on using a 1" binder on marine carpet, and what type of oil to use. It looks like I have motor oil under my machine, it does the oil bath thing.
@Theluckyneedle10 жыл бұрын
BubaJ1000 Wow $4 dollars is really cheep! Marine carpet prices seem to vary place to place. I useally order marine carpet from keystone because they are good about taking material back if there is something wrong with it. (witch seems to happen a lot with carpet) Also keyston will useally price match the other places in town. I almost never use carpet binders so Im not much help for you there... Oil under sewing machines is normal you just need to make sure you oil you machine regularly. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

BubaJ1000 Picked up some Coats on ebay, 32 oz white for 20.00, and 16 oz black for 16.50. Now to put it in my machine and see how it goes, the tread looks a lot better than that cheap junk I bought.

Thanks a great deal. I really enjoy learning from you John. Fun videos. I haven't seen if you did any video on cutting instruments. What are your favorite types of shears & for what? I can get the Wiss W20 10" or the Mundial Signature series 490-10 10" for simular cost. Which do you like & why? I use Gingher Knifes Edge Dressmaker 10* right now
