If you used a left handed foot to mark the width of your top stitch the only material you would need to fit through is your band. What you show works ok on a small cover but hard to put the whole body of the cover through the throat of the machine.
@Cechaflo2 жыл бұрын
You are thoroughly right! Thanks for the kind remarks! I am aware of what you are advising. Precisely, in the description of another previous basic video I recommend the use of a foot with the spring loaded guide on the other side to let a big cover to handle it much better on the left table area. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6SmimyNg9Osd7s I am making these short videos as reviews to understand all the basic sewings and trims involved in car upholstery. Kind of good help for interested people in learning this artcraft. I first started with the basic closing sewing, secondly with the oversewing, next will be the piping, then the double stitches and the last one will be the use of binding and hems.

When your sew the foam to the vinyl or leather do you glue it to the foam?. What type of foam is is and what the thickness and density of the foam ie specs
@Cechaflo Жыл бұрын
I do not thoroughly glue the leather to the foam. Just point of glue as basting all around the edges. The backing cloth can be thoroughly glue sprayed over. No problem. The foam is 10 mm thick, medium density. It is a regular upholstery foam.

Hola pregunta k es mejor pegar la espuma al material por ir más rápido o coserla , gracias
@Cechaflo Жыл бұрын

Do you need a specific machine to do the longer length lines for the topstitching?
@Cechaflo Жыл бұрын
Generally, the triple transport (walking feet) sewing machine stitches are 6 mm long. New models give a maximum stitch length of 10 to 12 mm long, mostly used on furniture. To freely give the maximum stitch length it is advisable to regulate the height of the presser feet. Otherwise, a hard or soft rubbing of presser feet with the material(vinyl, leather,etc.) can alter/diminish the stitch length.

Hi what's the foam your sewing onto & where can I get it? Do you sandwich the foam between material? Many thanks
@Cechaflo Жыл бұрын
It is headliner foamed material. I use it as a backing for the lateral panels of a seat cover because it already has a cloth that is placed on the reverse side. Sometimes it is also useful for the main top panels. www.albrightssupply.com/extra-wide-headliner-shale-67-orph2144 www.amazon.com/FabricEmpire-Automotive-Backed-Spacer-Headliner/dp/B0B8QCS7WC/ref=sr_1_56?keywords=headliner+material&sr=8-56
he used adhesive at edges only, I've seen others spray the entire panel and foam. How do you know when to do each method?
@Cechaflo Жыл бұрын
The entire panel gluing also works out provided the material is plain with no creases. Some car trimmers do not recommend the entire gluing because if some wrinkles are over the material, they will be very difficult to erase and would be reflected on top. I particularly agree with this method except in some cases such as concave leather/vinyl pieces. www.thehogring.com/2015/02/23/10-tips-to-take-your-trimming-to-the-next-level/
Where can I find a guide like that or similar I have a jiasew

How do I take a car seat size?
@Cechaflo2 жыл бұрын
A tailor's tape measure would be useful to taje mesures. The first to consider is how wide is the vinyl material. Regularly, vinyls are 54 (1.5 yards approx.) inches wide and we need to buy as many yards is necessary lengthwise. The full car seats of a car (front and rear seats) takes approx. 8 longitudinal yards. The process of taking measures begins by mesuring the front part of the seat bottom and backrest faces first, forming rectangular figures, then we go to the back panels and lateral panels. The measures should be written down on a piece of paper. Then we should draw the figures on a bigger piece of paper trying to figure out how the pieces are ordered in a 54" inches wide vinyl material. Summarizing 4 yards for the front (2 individual or one big seat) and 4 for the rear seats. I hope this information helps.
