Upington - Drive - Northern Cape, South Africa

I arrived in Upington after a very long drive from Joburg, approximately 9 hours, taking a break in Kuruman. Upington is a lovely city close to the border of Namibia. The majority of residents in Upington speak Afrikaans. I enjoyed my stay in Upington and love the scenery as it is a very dry area with a very different dessert climate. It kind of looks like some parts of Namibia. I drove here in the Upington CBD next to Schroder street, this is a very busy part of Upington as you can see. The town looks well looked after and well managed.

Does is a safe place? Or just like any other SA part?

Hi! It definitely felt safe when I was there. I read online that it's safer than many other cities in SA.

I could be moving there for work, my fear is the heat and language barrier. I'm from Durban and we don't speak Afrikaans our temperatures are moderate.

Hi, if you like small town life it would be great. It's also pretty far from the big cities in SA like Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban etc, which could be a downside. I would live there as long as I had a job there or an online one.

Hey, interestingly, it wasn't that hot there when I was around. It was kind of dry and cool. I think its mostly because it was winter you know. I hear it gets very hot in summer though.

Upington is the cleanest and buildings are well maintained more than any other town or city in the whole of South Africa. How do you do it?
