Note: the barrel I used in the video, I had already previously dimpled in case you were were wondering why I didn’t demonstrate the process of alignment and dimpling …as aligning is moot if the barrel is already dimpled. But I felt I explained directions on how to do it well enough for most, but if you have any additional questions about that or need help, let me know 👍🏻

Another important aspect is gas port sizing. Alot of guys dont check gas port size to determine if its within spec. This simple step can really make a difference depending on what the user is using the rifle for.

Wouldn't the manufacturer set this? I figured these numbers were dialed in by the mil spec that has evolved over time with barrel length and deeper studies into ballistics. I know a lot of manufactures have a "perfect" size for each length for a balance of suppressed and unsuppressed shooting. Why would one check this at the table during assembly?

@perrinperformance1 the size can differ a bit from each manufacturer. Even if they use mil spec it's always good to double check this to make sure it is the correct size for your application. Sometimes manufacturers can make mistakes too. I'm not saying that if you don't check gas port size that it's the end of the world but I like to know what's going into my build as sometimes my builds are far from budget.

@@andrewvalenta7320 adjustable gas blocks are nice in that it gives you the ability to tune the gun and decrease gas blowback. Particularly when supressed. I would say that if shooting unsupressed, it’s not particularly necessary because if that’s the case, it’s better to just use different buffer weights to tune for recoil. If you are going adjustable, it’s important to not cheap out. If the gas block set screw backs out, it can be an annoying issue. One that standard gas blocks don’t have. Pros and cons to both but I would suggest a quality adjustable for supressed shooting and not any old adjustable that you find. Wilson combat would probably be my first pick followed by superlative. Both have a solid reputation. Especially WC. Just remember that adding an AGB means adding another layer of complexity and potential for malfunction. So the juice needs to be worth the squeeze.

They’re both at about the same level of quality. Given the choice between the two, I’d go with Geissele. Probably a little better price and Marty Daniel who owns Daniel Defense isn’t exactly a favorable person in the gun community despite the fact that he makes quality guns. But that’s more of a personal issue on my part. Objectively speaking, In terms of quality it goes back and forth depending on the particular part in question but they are all around equivalent.

The geissele offers objectively better components IMO. As far as i know, there's nothing really special about the daniel components such as the bolt carrier group. The geissele on the other hand offers their reliability enhanced bolt carrier group. Coated with their proprietary nanoweapon coating they developed through picatinny arsenal. The bolt itself is forged with attention paid to grain orientation to reduce stress and increase durability, and uses Carpenter 158+, what i understand to be something they partnered with carpenter steel for. Their triggers speak for themselves, and as of a couple years ago they've been making their own CHF/CL barrels. I recently got a 11.5 URGI upper for a killer price on black friday and it is absolutely immaculate. Overall they're both high quality weapons, properly built by competent professionals. I do think geissele offers more innovation and practical upgrades for the money.
