The bicycle ride from Wanaka to Albert Town along the Clutha River is a scenic and enjoyable journey. Starting from Wanaka, the route follows the Upper Clutha River Track, covering approximately 11 km one way and typically taking about an hour to complete.
As you set off, you'll pass by Eely Point and Beacon Point, both offering beautiful views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. These spots are perfect for a quick rest or photo opportunity. Continuing along the track, you'll be treated to stunning views of the Clutha River, with its clear waters and rapids, as well as beautiful mountain vistas.
The track is mostly gentle till you get to the Clutha River. Then it gets bumpy as shown at the end of video. It is flat so it is only bumpy stuff that will annoy you and you can walk those small section.
For those looking for a longer adventure, the Upper Clutha River Track can be combined with the Newcastle Track to form a 28 km loop, offering more varied terrain and additional scenic spots. We didn't do that, we went to the popular Pembroke Patisserie
