The upper gets more than enough angling pressure. The walleye fishing has decreased dramatically because of Utube and Facebook posts more than quadrupling the number of new anglers keeping every fish they catch ignoring the regulations on length,slot season, and creel limits. In 30yrs of calling DNR I’ve had zero response when in most situations they have plenty of time to catch the perpetrators. The last 5yrs I’ve had to fish harder and longer with less success. In the 90s-2020 an average season produced 200-400 walleye releasing most of them with some specimens exceeding 28”. Now Im lucky to land 30. I know the increased in smallmouth population contributes but the numbers of new anglers ignoring regulations because they know there’s little chance of getting caught is the main factor. DO YOUR JOB and respond promptly when we call to report these unethical anglers that are ruining this fishery!!!
