I added a UPR catch can on my f150 EcoBoost at 13,000 miles and its now at 49,000 miles. I've not necessarily saved what its caught but I've been pouring it into a old 2 1/2 gallon weed killer container.I emptied the catch can yesterday and its now full.So in 36,000 miles its caught 2 1/2 gallons of crankcase blow by that would have otherwise been ran through my engine. I wish they would have made cleaning the catch can easier though.

Yeah I hear those eco-boost engines have a lot of blow by. It’s not too difficult to empty on my cars that I have had, but I don’t know what the set up is on the eco-boost trucks. I’m sure they made it as easy as they could with the design of their can.

I almost wanna say that you might have installed it backwards. I have a 05 Magnum with a BT catch can and recently added a UPR Diffuser and man does it help. But the oil/water mist that enters the can should travel through the filter media not the holes in the center of the top portion. I could be wrong but it’s a simple re-run of the hoses.

Hang on just ah minute....... Do I see and hear correctly??? This catch CAN is fed from the PCV valve, through the CAN and back into the air intake but with one additional exception/process. The CAN has a mesh filter on top???? If that is correct, then the air intake is drawing a reduced flow from the PCV valve due to the fact that the air intake is drawing air into the top of the CAN at the same time. Is this a problem ? I don't know for sure but possibly! In theory, as long as the engine has the ability to vent excess pressure then all is good. Right? The fact that oil gets carried away from the engine is during the process really doesn't matter. If there was a way to vent and still keep all the oil in the engine, that would be the optimal way to go. Right? Then you mention that the CAN has this amazing additional function of removing condensation from the engine when it's cool or cold outside and you start the engine. Is it really condensation from the combustion process that the CAN is capturing? Or is it the moisture from the ambient cool/cold area suck into the filter of the CAN during start up and continued operation???? I summarize that it's the 2nd! So I have to wonder how the CAN performs when the weather is very hot and possibly humid as well. You have hot temp's, maybe humid and it will be very hot under the hood. Will the oil cool sufficiently in the CAN to begin changing from an airborne/mist state to a heavy fluid state and drop out or will a majority of oil mist be carried through to the air intake?? I would love to know more on that! At the end of the day, it sure looks pretty.

Just wanted to give you some answers about the UPR Catch Can System. Q) The CAN has a mesh filter on top? A) Yes, it does, UPR Catch Cans all use our proprietary Hi-Flow Coalescing filters. Q) Does this reduce flow? A) No, it does not, Our Coalescing filters are explicitly developed to maintain airspeed and flow and not restrict flow. Q) In theory, as long as the engine has the ability to vent excess pressure then all is good. Right? A) Correct, the PCV system will never see excessive pressure unless it has bad rings or boosted and even then, excessive crankcase pressure is released at the in or the out of the PCV system when overrun with positive pressure. Q) If there was a way to vent and still keep all the oil in the engine, that would be the optimal way to go. Right? A) No, you don't want to vent to atmosphere. You always want the crankcase evacuated by having a strong vacuum source scavenging the unburnt fuel and oil in the PCV system. Q) Is it really condensation from the combustion process that the CAN is capturing? A) Both, The condensation collected is from the combustion leakage in the crankcase and the cold metal inside the engine as it warms up and goes through the heat cycle producing condensation while warming the dense metal. ( Some moisture is pulled from the air as it goes through the combustion as well. Q) So I have to wonder how the CAN performs, will the oil cool sufficiently, or will a majority of mist be carried through to the intake? A) No, the UPR Catch Can is specifically designed to perform in the heat and does not depend on the cool mounting location or weather like 99% of all the other catch cans in the industry. The internal design was developed to coalesce the oil in the hottest conditions with multiple stages and filters to work in conjunction to coalesce the oil at each step while maintaining flow and not just containing the oil by restricting the PCV airflow as the majority of catch can manufacturers do. Of course, restricting airflow diminishes overall performance and ring seal and cannot be compromised. I hope this helps you more with the questions you asked as we have worked long and hard on our catch cans and continually improve upon our systems. The most critical variables to a winning catch can system is maintaining airflow and hot weather performance. UPR is based in Florida and performing in the Heat has always been our primary focus so we can keep the catch can hot and reduce collected condensation and still have positive oil control throughout the process. Which is vital to reduce the frequency you need to empty a UPR Catch Can System. We work on covering every aspect of the system and the product and performance we give to our customers. At the end of the day, it sure looks pretty., Thank you very much for the compliment as well. Joe@UPRproducts

Hello UPRjoe. Thanks for the information, time and effort to respond. So after reading your response and viewing the video again, I have two immediate thoughts. 1) For people in the northern, colder climates, I can "assume/foresee" that condensation may be a larger percentage and concern than oil captured in the CAN during colder/winter months and would require frequent inspection and emptying. 2) If all is as shown on the video and the return line to the intake is so clear/absent of oil, then you still have not improved upon the potential gas mileage increase! It would seem obviously clear (to me) that the return should have been and must be routed to and before the MAF Sensor. Please correct me if I am wrong and explain why. Thanks In addition...... Is that an adjustable air volume control valve on the top that allows in/out venting at atmosphere?? Please explain that and how it relates to my above comments and questions. Thanks again.

@mainiero50 6 жыл бұрын
@@lisab3396 A) Colder climates see more condensation and the water usually evaporates from mounting the Catch Can above the engine. In extreme cold, it's always good to check the level. A) From the factory, all vehicles ingest a lot of OIL. When the oil/mist has been controlled/reduced by any significant amount is when the MPG increase is seen after a properly designed Catch Can that coalesces the oil and trash getting sucked through the PCV and results in clean cylinder combustion. A) The return is designed to be after metered air as you are not introducing new air you are only cleaning the air getting evacuated from the crankcase from the intake vacuum source. The metered air always stays the same unless you run an open breather or have a separate clean air source of unmetered air. That is why we split the factory line and clean it between the exit of the PCV and before it recirculates back through the intake manifold.

Can you compare it to Billet Technology catch can? Also do you think there is any chance of them voiding the factory warranty?
@KnightsGarage

john K They can’t simply “void “the factory warranty. They can however denies certain warranty claims. They can deny certain warranty claims for you putting an aftermarket steering wheel cover on your steering wheel. So yes there is always a chance but they could not a warranty claim but I doubt that they would off of a catch can. If you’re that worried if your engine blows up pop two connectors and put the factory piece back in before you go to the dealer

I owned a 1987 Jeep Wrangler I replaced the air filter myself. Long story short the stud holding the air filter cover down broke off and landed in the motor. The piston connecting rod and crankshaft all had to been replaced. . They would not cover the repair because I replaced my air filter myself and accused me of over tightening the wing nut. Funny enough they were the ones last in they are filter. I fought with Chrysler for over a year before they finally gave up.

@@KnightsGarage Thanks for your reply. Another question. I've heard chatter about having two catch cans, one on the driver side and one on the dirty passenger side. What's your view on that ?
@KnightsGarage
@KnightsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
50mm f1.4 well the fresh air for the PCV system is sucked in from just behind the air filter and into the drivers side of the engine. So there should be no oil coming from that side unless there is too much blow by for the PCV system to handle. I be never seen any oil in the drivers side tuning. Most people that have bought the driver side catch can find little to no oil in it between oil changes. It worth the money in my opinion.

No other catch can offers the engineering or oil coalescing performance. These are patented and only come with UPR Plug n Play™ fittings at the catch can for easy installation and removal. These can capture all the oil the simple designs allow to get sucked straight through them. @@ghuron13 I would not compare the build or quality of the RXP and or the gimmick heat exchanger. This does not qualify as a heat exchanger or deliver any heat dissipation properties as the tube is the same temperature as the can so it does not exchange heat as it will be as hot as the air and the oil that exits the PCV.. We've taken time to develop custom coalescing screens and filters to reduce chambers and increase PCV vacuum strength. We do not want to have anymore than 4 chambers as it can impede performance. We see other manufacturers focusing on how many chambers as we have revised our internal filtration to focus on the best coalescing and airspeed across the screens and filters. UPR Catch Cans incorporate the best build quality and components throughout as we only build our systems through ISO certified machinists with diamond cutters and very tight machines. We'd be more than happy to set you up with a great package once you determine the hose lengths, size, and mounting brackets you need. Cheers
