It was classic Dave. He riffs on EVERYbody. A lot of people nowadays, especially the younger generation, take offense to everything. And if you took offense to what Dave was talking about, you weren't truly listening.

I liked The Closer, it showcased a great range of the technical proficiency that Chapelle has. He really is one of the very few to actually stick with stand-up that long and becoming so skilled with it. But people need to read some of the public responses as well and hear what’s actually being said, not just dismiss it as overly sensitive and all this crap. Just because there’s a whole media mob (social and mainstream) that responds in such a banal and reactionary way, that doesn’t mean that he’s without blemish. But having been a stan of Chapelle a long time, I honestly think Chapelle himself does pay attention and listen and that it’s just large chunks of his audience which doesn’t and they are the real proponents of the same ignorance - and then the trans community sees how some of his special resonates with that audience and they attack the figurehead because it’s easier than confronting the actual complexity of public discourse especially as it relates to structural violence.

I’m with Kweli on the whole point that no one minds calling women bitches or dropping the N word every 5 minutes. However, as soon as you make a joke involving other marginalized communities now it’s a problem. People need to check their motives and ask themselves WHY am I offended and is this really genuine concern for people or am I just interested in controversy

The only thing Dave said that was remotely offensive was that he stands with JK Rowling and that he's "team terf". Terf ideology is harmful and it's disappointing for them to feel validated by someone with a platform. I think(hope?) Dave was mostly joking when he said he agrees with them, though. Everything else he's said about LGBTQ people in his specials has been poignant and hilarious as far as my trans ass is concerned
