I noticed in "Time Amok" (one of my favorites of Season 1)... when Dal's time period fracture is about to explode, Hologram Janeway goes over and kneels in front of him, taking his hand... just as Captain Janeway kneeled in front of Seven of Nine on the Delta Flyer in "Voyager Conspiracy" and taking her hand just before they beamed out.

Got to give the Dal up another up with hindsight. He went from a cocky, self obsessed kid to someone willing to die for his crew, who when told he'd not get into starfleet swore he'd do everything he could to make sure his crew DID. He had such organic character growth and it was brilliant.

I would say that Lower Decks, and Generations before it, has now pretty much established that there isn't necessarily consistency in the uniforms across the whole fleet. Also, I suspect the Admiral Janeway scene is 17 years previous, and she's tracking the Protostar shortly after it was captured, and that is a misdirect (which would also mean at least Chakotay isn't still marooned in the Delta Quadrant).

Possible that the Diviner needed to activate the weapon for it to work against the Federation? If he just let the kids take it there, maybe the weapon would be discovered before it reached Starfleet. Also, the credits put Janeway as a Vice-Admiral. I believe she was only a Rear Admiral in Nemesis, so yes, post-Picard might work.

Well he didn't know if they'd go to the Federation. But his plan was still nuts. So convinced they wouldn't listen or that they did it on purpose, or so driven by revenge, he concocts some convoluted plan to try and take down the entire Federation rather than just earn them not to make contact with his people. I agree that he was kind of a letdown overall. I get why you and many love the clips and such. To me, I'd rather just have new lines from living people rather than obvious clips from those that have passed. The audio is a little distracting tbh. But to each their own. And I imagine this was cheaper. The short term memory loss was kind of a copout, but it was a great effect on Zero showing that he accidentally hurt a friend.

For the date issue, just look at the stardate given in A Moral Star. 604xx. Since TNG started, the stardates increase by 1000 per year in-universe. Given that TNG started with 41xxx in 2364, that would put Prodigy season 1 in 2383, slightly after Lower Decks.

5:20 I think you missed something. My take was that somehow the Diviner wanted to take the Protostar into the past and release the weapon against the Federation before they make first contact with his people, therefore saving his civilization from the devastating civil war. Infecting the Federation in the present would solve anything, so he needed to find the ship to do it in the past.
@benjackson8731
@benjackson8731 2 жыл бұрын
I think the diviner has already come back, hence saying to Gwen that she could see it now. The protostar is probably the only ship fast enough to get out to the delta quadrant and back and destabilise the federation before first contact is made
@KnightRaymund
@KnightRaymund 2 жыл бұрын
He already travelled to the past. Twice, I guess, because the Protostar has to have been sent to the past if it was sitting on the planet so long. The timeline is still messy. But in the present the planet is still fine. That's what he showed Gwyn.

Regarding the timeline. There's a lot of reasons they might not have Protostar drive in Picard if this series is set before it. 1) maybe it's impractically expensive or complicated to mass produce to the point starfleet scraps the project 2) Maybe this virus gets some starfleet bureaucrat terrified and they decide to scrap the project 3) Maybe having a star inside your ship isn't really safe (example: what if it explodes in a populated solar system?) 4) Maybe there's another plot reason that hasn't been explored There's an infinite number of reasons the protostar project could be scrapped or seen as too dangerous or what have you. Example: Why doesn't every ship in Picard have slipstream drive? Because benamite is rare. The uniforms on the dauntless look kinda TNG meets lower decks, and we know the captain can customize uniforms a little bit. So I'm guessing the 2380s. Wiki says 2383. The wrench in my argument is all the alpha quadrant aliens there. Though you mentioned the idea of a space race. Space travel has always been really slow in startrek, so I can imagine everyone and their mothers wanting to make something faster. Espeically considering slipstream drives show that it's possible. Unfortunately the most likely answer is that the show is suppose to introduce people to star trek and those are common startrek aliens. Which is a disappointing answer. hopefully we get a better one.

SPOILER for end of the season: Looking back at this comment now, "Not enough Chakotay"... welp, the editing on this season was so tight. What is Chakotay's line? He's in the future, the plan to escape has failed. He laughs, he sighs, he smiles, and in half a second he sends the ship and strands himself in a prison lost in space and time forever, for duty. Absolutely FANTASTIC sigh and animation. Told me his entire story in one breath. Why use more? Straight from the Harrison Ford school of acting.
