The punishment for Hit&Run under IPC,1860 is 2 years imprisonment with minimum remittance, but in newly enacted BHARTIYA NYAYA SANHITA, the punishment for Hit&Run has been increased to 10 years with 7 Lakhs remittance.

Well, I am not so sure but that 7 Lakh figure is not true... There is as such no pre-determined fine amount for hit-and-run cases given in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Apart from the increased fines and imprisonment from 2 to 10 years, the central issue raised by Truck drivers is that- Earlier under Motor Vehicles Act, in case of an accident, the driver was mandated to ensure medical help for victim and report the incident to a police officer/magistrate to not be booked under 'Hit AND RUN' but there was an exception for when the drivers were forced to run from the spot due to mob fury. Under the new law, this exception has been removed and truck drivers are protesting that saying that mobs often become aggressive on drivers in such accidents and they have no choice but to run. Hope this helps!

Previously in IPC Section304-A death by negligence where punishment was 2 year and also fine but in BNS section 106(2) death by rash and negligent driving, punishment is enhanced as imprisonment for 10 year and 7 lakh rupees. This is the case if they do not report the case to authority.

People also do not follow road rules in India, I've had so many instances where people, children ran in front of my vehicle when it was a green light and making bad cuts where it could have easily caused an accident and hurt both of us so Truck drivers are more on the right side of the arugument.
