Yes, 5-7 questions can be solved from📕 Upinder Singh's book on Ancient and Early Medieval India, but that does not mean you should replace this book with routine sources, this time more questions came from Art and Culture section, but will this repeat in the next year too, no we cannot predict anything. UPSC is unpredictable, the only thing we can predict about the UPSC question paper is randomness, today the question that came from this book does not mean that next year too question will come from this same book. My take is this - do not change your routine sources ex. old NCERTs and Standard Books for Indian culture, you could have solved 5-7 questions from these books and this is another big number in itself. If you want to read Upinder Singh (please read carefully, I am not telling you to read this book, I am telling you, you have facts, you have your brain so decide wisely), ✋ do not read it cover to cover, instead one can read the chapter on Ashoka and Buddhism, and that too is not mandatory. Always remember this, even if you know the answer of the half of the question exactly, you are doing good. Always remember that you are doing good and you have done a commendable job if you can solve 4-5 questions out of 8 questions using routine sources, we have to qualify for mains and not ace the prelims, as of now focus on mains sincerely, if you have any issues drop a mail or comment here. NCERTs faired better than Tamil Nadu Board Books, this time more questions came from Ancient and Medieval part, and I cannot predict what course will UPSC take next year, I don’t have such powers or skills, or contacts. Also questions could have been solved from new NCERTs too, you can analyse past 4-5 years papers and check the sources, also check the utility of those books in mains, then decide on booklist once you decided on booklist do not change the sources.. This is all I can suggest at this point.

Now I have a proper note for medieval and ancient. No need to depend on any book. When U get extra point just add in ur Notes....try to add as much as facts u can add in that notes from various sources. 😊 I'm in first year, if you have time u can do it too

@ 6:34 I'm not sure which old NCERT you were talking about. Could you please specify? I have the one which was reprinted in 2004 and there is bibliography in page 247. Although, in page 184 there is a mention of Kalidasa and Amarasimha.

This is prescribed book for optional and a little bit dense in subject matter. So upsc has made it so much difficult that we have to read optional books not for mains but for prelim s itself

Yes u can if u r good in maths but has vast a syllabus

Go through the maths optional syllabus once and decide. As I have read the syllabus and already have a ug degree in maths, I concluded by seeing the syllabus that it mostly covers theory part with some practical part. Nowadays even coaching class guidance is available for this optional, earlier this used to be not the case. If you have good hold over maths and can spend hours together in that subject, you are ready to go for it.

Jo padh rahe ho usko hi pdhte raho ,is bar is book se puch next year kahin or se is chakkar mein aspirant distract hokar pdhai ni kar pata ,bus stationary shop bana leta hai apne room ko. Ek hi authetic source ho plus test series and multiple revision. Bhai bhatka mat logo ko art and culture ki 100 books bhi pdh loge tab bhi upsc humari halat khrab kr skta hai. Tumhari video dekhkr ab sab nitin singhania upindar singh khreed layenge..jisse sirf burden bdhega ghatea nahi.
