Confederation of Central Government Gazetted Officer's Organisations (CCGGOO) opposes reduction in intake of AIS Officers. UPSC recommended only 685 from five lakh candidates who took examination in 2021 for appointment to IAS, IFS, IPS and Group A and B of the Central Services in spite of massive retirements. Due to acute shortage of All India Services (AIS) officers, there is heavy workload and subordinate Officers & employees are also working under heavy stress. The number of Civil Service Examination candidates shortlisted for recruitment this year is the lowest since 2012. Due to Government’s policy of down sizing human resources, the number of candidates selected has fallen sharply and posts advertised for recruitment has declined gradually. Nearly 10 lakh candidates had registered for Civil Service Examination last year. In 2014, 1, 236 candidates were recommended by UPSC. In 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, the number stood at 1,122, 1,078, 1,099, 990, 759, 829 and 761, respectively. Through the recent amendments by DoPT, IAS, IPS & lFS Officers could be deputed to the Union govt. and Ministries without taking the State govts. nod. For civil service to be truly representative, women must rise up at all bureaucracy levels especially in a country where girls often have to drop out of school for a variety of reasons, from poverty, early marriage to lack of toilets.
