Thank you for all the great info and the spotlight on a very beautiful fish. That is not commonly available at most pets store. I love my three they are my center pieces for the tank. They are just so cute.

I think you meant to say they prefer alkaline water pH around 7. or higher, but will adapt to much lower with no problem....they come from African rift lakes and river mouths that have very hard water...

They are so fun I love my harold, that's his name, I recently got a baby upside down catfish he so cute, he swims along side of harold there so cute. Does yours jerk around and twitch, it looks like he having a sezier?

I had one of these and he kept jumping out of the tank, the first time he I found him on the floor and he was fine. The second time I found him all dried up.😞

Give them some sinking food or Blood Worms, while you go to bed, Make sure you turn the aqua lights down. They like getting fed in the dark... Try and let me know..

AquaStudent yeah that's a really beautifull specimen, for a catfish that is, i'm usually not really into catfish but you gotta love those spines! say i'm considering a Thorichthys meeki in my predator tank, and since you've got so many knowledge about cichlids can i have your opinion on that? the smallest fish that is going in with it is an amazon puffer i'm afraid he'll bother it

I considered keeping a couple firemouths in my big tank at one point but decided to go another path instead. From what I've seen of them they are aggressive but not overly violent. If the puffer is living well in a predator tank already then they should be fine. I should ask, how big is the tank and what else is in there?

AquaStudent i've asked you for some help more then once, i'm the guy with the talkshow remember? I said before i don't have the tank yet. i'm still doing research but i'm going for an 80 - 90 gallon over 75 at least but i'm trying to avoid a tank that small.

AquaStudent i can tell you what species i want to add. one of each of the following: firemouth, amazon puffer, bumblebee catfish, elephantnose, dwarf pike cichlid, zebra spiny eel. according to aqadvisor it fits in an 80g
