I really think the saddest part of this movie WAS getting Ray almost excited to ride the teacups, and watching her take public transport, and mastering a bite of the hot dog; and then they get there and it's complete disappointment that the park is closed... That hurt me, and reminded me of my own childhood disappointments. Now as a mom, I warn my kids never to expect that things will go perfect. It's heartbreaking when your children are disappointed.

Now as an adult I see it differently. Not only that point that things don’t always work out. But also showing that Britney Murphys character is not acting like an adult who would maybe plan out going etc

Yes. Same here- always have a plan B ready. Funny, I'm from NYC, so when I saw this the first thing I thought was - the Aquarium is right next door they could just go there! 😂
@Chelssums5 ай бұрын
I think another thing is that Ray experienced so many false promises from her mom. When you do that to a child, it messes with your trust in other people. So when she finally trusted someone with something she absolutely would never do, it just reaffirmed that Ray can’t trust anyone. We know this isn’t true and the movie used this as a good opportunity to show that just because one bad thing happens, it doesn’t mean you should generalize it- especially after trauma.

The way that Ray acts in the beginning is a spitting image of her mother, because she wants her mothers approval, attention and validation. It's actually quite sad, especially the Fruit Punch scene -- you could totally see her judgemental and pretentious mom saying that to her, and Ray is just regurgitating that sentiment she was told to Molly.
