Upwind foiling 20kn peak - A-Class catamaran - multicam - commentary

Awesome day with steady 10 knots of winds. Great to experiment more with foiling upwinds, especially being faster getting up onto the foils. As viewers requested to see more of the maneuvers, I focused more on them and how to pop the boat and land it. At these moderate winds it is as easy as it can get. The world looks different at 18+ knots TWS where the number one challenge is landing the boat, and the only easy part is sending it ;-). Maybe next time....

Great video, awesome boat! One thing I notice is that there is a lot of rudder input during tacks, almost 90 degrees at some points, wich slows the boat down to 2 or 3 knots and makes it difficult to get back on the foils after the tack. From experience I know that its very hard to be aware of things like rudder input when coming off the wire and scrambling across the boat, and I'm no master of it myself, but that's always something that coaches used to tell me and it made a real difference... Keep the videos coming, looks like you're having a lot of fun!

thanks for that note. i have seen ravi parent never go under 5 knots during tacks so i appreciate that observation.

My advice - take up limbo dancing, it will help with your tacking. Great video!

Danke. Foiling A-Cat hab ich leider den einzigen am See. Würde mich über weitere freuen. Im Segelclub Steinbach SSVS kann man allerdings foiling Skeeta mit training bekommen. Möglicherweise hilft das weiter um einen Schritt Richtung foiling zu setzen.

Its sail structure doesn't seem to allow it to sail before the wind, does it?

correct, this is not normal gennaker/spinnaker type of sailing. instead, this is all about apparent wind sailing. this means, you dont go straight before the wind as this would be too slow. instead you start with reaching, take speed, generate apparent wind, and then you bear away to got downwind at 2x of true windspeed at angles 30 to 45 degrees off straight downwind.
