Unless it's changed recently, the hook on your trap harness is what damages the boat the most when trying ti right the boat. Please let me know if this has changed

@@Kognito72 you still need to be careful. best to always stay a bit sideways (eg hips) and dont lean directly with the belly and thus hook on the boat. i had punctured my hull once with the hook. learned since then.

Hi, thanks for the video! Can you maybe tell me how much your mast rake and spreader rake is and how much tension you put on the shrouds? Thank you!
@flyinggorilla Жыл бұрын
Mast rake is 5 degrees, spreader rake at 70mm. Diamond tension 29 on loos gauge. shroud tension is by feel of the forestays (I measure 17 on loos gauge on my shrouds) according to mischas video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmPLdKqpfttoptE

@@flyinggorilla Hello! Modern performance cats tend to work better with less spreader rake and a much higher diamond tension, it results with the same mast bend on the lengh axis but with way more "sideway" stiffness. Nacra 17 boats go somewhere around 600-800 kg with the carbon fiber mast (from what I've heard) and even with an aluminium mast on the nacra 15, some peoples go up to 500kg. You may be able to better tune your boat with a kg scale tensiometer (such as the spinlock one that go up to 800kg if i remember right) as loos gauge ttensiometer only go up to 250 kg, that could be your light-medium wind setup. I'll let you experiment on your own and find what suits you best ! Hope this helps !

@@rbpt__4136 thanks. good to know. i own both, spinlock and loos. would prefer everyone using kg instead of loos.
@rbpt__41363 ай бұрын
@@flyinggorilla I'd say loos is easier to use when you don't need precise tunning or that you are starting to race boats. Kg is much more precise but bit harder to get your head around when you're on a beginner-intermediate level. But when it comes to racing boats, KG is a way better system.
@flyinggorilla3 ай бұрын
@@rbpt__4136 could you explain that argument? a linear kg scale is always easier than a non-linear loos scale. so why would loos be easier? for me the killer reason to invest in loos is that everyone had it and thats the reference you got online, but i cannot see any other argument.

What are you using to monitor your speed? How accurate is you measurement, you think? I just switched to Atlas 2 from Vakaros. GPS logging at 5 Hz does not make a hell of a difference compared to my old GPS watch from Polar (Polar m400). What is your experience? Nice videos! Started sailing a BirdyFish (foiling dinghy) as of this year - great fun! Keep it up.
@flyinggorilla Жыл бұрын
For the video I used the GPS from a GoPro 10 thats mounted between the forestays. That is accurate enough as video overlay and easier to synchronize to the video. I had also the Vakaros Atlas 2 on board, that I use for regattas and accurate top speed measurement. I do also have a Sailmon Max which works well too. During video rendering sessions I compared speeds from GoPro GPS with Vakaros or Sailmon and have to say that there is mostly rounding errors as difference for that purpose. I guess the 5Hz from Atlas 2 could potentially improve some calculated measurements such as COG or distance to line. Cool BirdyFish boat. Great you enjoy foiling too!

@@flyinggorilla Thanks for your reply, it is well appreciated. With GoPro 10, Atlas 2 and Sailmon Max you are "expensively" well equipped! Perfect. How do you go about "time to line" settings with the Atlas 2 - I quess, you have it on the mast? How do you "hit the buttons" of the Atlas 2 to get the settings right for posititoning the start line?
@flyinggorilla Жыл бұрын
@@topcatk2632 while time to line doesnt rely on compass as far as I understand, i do want the compass to work during the race to better see wind-shifts. thus i have mounted the Atlas 2 on the "ticktack" mount in front of the mast. In the video, you can see the black carbon holder on the front beam. thats reachable enough to ping boat and pin.

Weird question but how much do you weigh? Thinking about buying one and I wanna know

75kg, what fits with using the soft fiberfoam mast. there is a stiffer version for heavier people too. hth
