Matt Dynes Hi Matt - I have had bikes for many decades ha ha . BSA’s, Harley, Honda’s, etc. Still have a Honda NC 700 and a 1953 Matchless. I picked up my Ural in Ottawa and dove it the 300 miles north to home without ever having a Sidecar experience. Have never had a problem with any handling issues and find them quite easy to drive in spite of all the cautionary advice one seems to encounter on the internet. Just take it slow and easy until used to things and just keep ramping up your skill level gradually. I plan to drive mine all winter and looking forward to it.

David, another great video. Thanks. Your videos are very instructional and tremendous, especially for those of us who are nowhere near a dealer. Hopefully someday in the future you will do a video showing you actually lubricating the universal on the engine drive shaft when it is on the bike rather than just saying it is difficult to get to and mechanics use a certain kind of grease gun. After 6 years I still have to remove the rear wheel to be able to lube the grease fitting. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.

Thanks for the video! Trying to adjust my sidecar brake and its close, just pulling to the left slightly. Have been carrying a 10mm box wrench in my pocket. Pulled into a parking lot the other nite to make a small adjustment and when I looked up the local sheriff had pulled up to me and was smiling asking me if I was ok. Startled me but it was nice of him to stop and ask. He offered to race me but I had to get home.

Dave, thanks for the amazing effort you put in to demystify the adjustments and maintenance on these machines. I’m an old dirt/street guy. I lost a leg to a drunk driver while riding my bike, but want to get back out there now that I’m retired. I’ve always done the overwhelming amount of maintenance on my machines over the years, and thanks to your tutorials, feel comfortable continuing to do so. I’m 3 weeks away from slapping my deposit down on a Gear Up, and spending some long overdue trips into the Great North Woods. I might be riding a lot slower than the young folks out there this spring, but I can guarantee that I’ll be enjoying it more than almost all of them.

I have a brand new ural and the foot brake pedal seems to take a large 20-30 degree arc before brakes actuate. How can I adjust that actuation lever position? Since the lever is right under the peg there doesn’t seem to be a way to bring up the pedal. Doing quick stops is harder because toe has to press down so far before any braking occurs. Thanks!

These are great videos. How about one for corrosion control maintenance of the bike and sidecar frames? I was seeing some red rust residue from a couple of spots on the sidecar frame that were trapping water. Fixed with small drain holes / paint and liberal application of corrosionX in all the places water can collect including in those tubes with plastic plugs . Got to be a huge issue in places with salt on the roads / winter.

I have a 2016 that I bought used. It's been a thorn due to prior owners neglect. Iv changed the differential and the fuel injection to tge new style system. First ride out after that, about 3 miles down the road and the side car break locked up (was very hot). I'm hoping this video helps me figure it out. I've only been able to put about 60 miles on the bike since purchase. Diff made noise day 2. Fixed that and got caught in a rainstorm that shorted out one side throttlebody. No parts availability so all new system. Now this.....ugg
@alanottley4 жыл бұрын
Great video... thanks. That is exactly how I have been adjusting the parking brake on my 2018 Gear Up. However, I find that after a ride, the parking brake no longer holds the bike in place. It’s like the normal wear on the brake pads after a ride have thrown it out of adjustment. What kind of adjustment intervals do you expect on a Ural? I have pretty much given up on it. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks again!
@UralMotorcyclesOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Adjustment interval is usually after initial break in on a new motorcycle at the first service (new brake pads wear in and new cable will stretch a bit). After replacing brake pads, maybe a couple hundred miles to brake them in and it may need an adjustment. What you are experiencing is too frequent, do you have a dealer that can inspect the caliper? There may be something else going on.

Excellent video thanks. Stupid question. Why have guard 6mm and adjustment two 10mm - why not have as many nuts in same size for same job. Just me thinking about lessening what’s needed but I’m sure a good reason.

Excellent video Dave, as always. I have a 2022 Gear Up and I notice that my rear brake pedal travels pretty far before the brake engages. It's rather uncomfortable having to push down so far when hard braking. Can I adjust this at the pedal to reduce the pedal travel without affecting the brake bias with the sidecar?
