The interesting thing about lighter people commenting that despite the skin tone difference, they still watch her videos, is that much of Nyma's content is created especially for people with deeper, richer skin tones. For example, many of her videos feature the darkest shades, not just "her" shade. If you look at the comment section for Thattaylaa, for example, I see much of the same type of comments. People always say things like "I have dark skin but love watching your foundation series". She also creates content for people who have cystic acne and oily skin. Again, people who don't have that skin type/condition always comment things like "I have dry skin/no acne but watch all your videos". That's because Thattaylaa typically wears (and seeks out, much like Nyma does) the LIGHTEST shade brands have to offer. Both Nyma and Thattaylaa create content for very specific audiences, but those who don't fit within those groups still watch despite this. I think that's what people are trying to say when they comment things like "I'm super pale but still love your video" etc.

People need to calm down... I also haven't seen a single comment on this video of someone actually stating they're pale, or even anyone actually talking about this video. It's basically everyone telling pale people to stop talking about being pale.. Then about 2 comments like yours haha

I think your insight is pretty spot on. I know your comment is a year old, but I thought I'd share why I watched this video even though I am at the lightest end of the spectrum. When buying makeup, I will only support companies who are inclusive with their product range as there is no excuse to not make a full range of colors. Being left out sucks, and I won't support it. I typed in 'urban decay naked foundation dark' to make sure the company was doing things right, not just in having deep colors as well as mine (the lightest shade they make, 0.5 and the same one Thattaylaa uses), but that the formula was quality. Yes, I can look at bottles of deep colors and go "yeah I see they make a decent number of dark shades", but I'm not going to know how it wears for a day or if the company got the undertones right. Nyma's videos are the most informative for what I am looking for because she does comparisons to similar shades and also looks at the darkest ones. She does a fantastic job, is very talented, and I trust her opinion. I may not be able to relate to the shades used or some of the application techniques because I can't use them myself, but I greatly appreciate the product review so I can make an informed purchase decision.

Isis Duncan I think it's Harmless, tbh. I think Bc she is a channel that creates content for dark skin, they acknowledge that although they may not be her target demo, they still enjoy her videos. Her content is very specific, she's not just a beauty guru, she is a guru who makes it a point to create content for women with darker skin tones. Do they have to proclaim anything? Nah. But I do feel it's weird to harp on them for it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Majority of the mainstream makeup industry is white/light skinned women, which EVERYBODY watches. No one comments that they're black or darkskin or "the completely opposite skin shade" when they watch it. They just watch it. I get the intent isn't to be malicious when ppl point out that they aren't the same shade as her, but still it's sooo annoying that ppl feel the need to point out the difference in their skin from hers when that is rarely done to white or lighter skin tones. Just goes to show how light skin is the standard for makeup. Anywho, greatly appreciate & enjoy the impact Nyma is making in the industry! She is def needed.

Michelle Phan doesn't whip out a foundation 3x darker than her skin and review it, she uses one that's her shade. Yes, Nyma's titles are more specific and openly say that but the concept is still the same. And Nyma isn't even the first, last, and/or only non light skinned youtuber I've seen this happen to. I have dry skin also and this foundation was okay, but I started mixing a serum with it and I LOVE the finish after. It's my favorite foundation once the serum is factored in. Glad urban decay got it together enough to extend the range!

i understand where you all are coming from with your comments here, but i don't think it's necessarely ment in an offensive way. just for me personally, i feel like if i watch makeup related videos with tips and tricks and purchasing suggestions and products reviews, it's more useful to see how the product would look on myself so, without any judgement on other youtubers, i find myself often tending to look for girls who not only have a similar skin shade to mine, undertone and all, but also features like brown hair and eyes, face shape, beauty taste ect. I have episodes where I've loved an eye/lip makeup on a youtuber with much darker skin then me, cause it looked so subtle and sof and classy, then when i've tried to reproduce it on me it of course looked totally different, much bolder and honestly ridiculous or ugly, so now i pay attention to this aspect and for example i Tend not to watch blonde girls with bright eyes all that much, or oily skin girls (i'm dry) ect. with that being said, i think a huge part of why you should like a youtuber is because of their personality, reliability, honesty, skills, knowledge of the subject ect so I also am subscribed and a fan of girls who look totally not like me, i support the fight about brand having to produce more dark shades and i know when a girl is beautiful and skilled or fun, interesting in all skin types shades sizes ect. and am aware that I can still watch product reviews and much more from girls that wear makeup differently then me. i actually arrived here and to many other channels i didn't know, out of curiosity to see if the new colourpop concealers shade range is as wide as i thought at a first glance or not and i am learning a lot. For example I watch Kathleen Lights cause I love her personality and I trust her opinion, she has a similar taste/ style to mine and she has dry skin like me, I watch Teni Panosian cause she has similar shades then me in the summer and a similar sense of style to mine, I watch The Makeup Chair cause she is the one who can teach me how-to best, I watch Emilynoel83 cause I love her reviews and she has similar shades and features and budget, I watch Atleeey cause I love her flow and different style, I watch ThatGirlShaexo cause I love her personality and I like the same brands that she does, I watch Kaushal Beauty cause she has similar shades and some features and is very informative and classy, I watch Lauren Curtis cause she always lifts the game a level higher for me, i watch JkissaMakeup because she has a philosophy similar to mine, I watch Syos World because she is amazingly skilled and she has a stunning talent, thecnique and sense of creativity, I watch Irishcel507 because I adore her personality, I watch Allison Henry cause I like her makeup looks, I watch Ellarie cause I love the type of looks she creates ect.

But it's a whole different ball game now. And with Nyma making these videos, like she said that the beauty industry see these videos and know they need to make changes. Hey Nyma, great video! I've been wearing the Naked series #12.0 for a few years now, it's one of my summer faves as someone with oily skin! I'm glad they expanded their range but I feel they should go even further, especially adding cool undertones because most of the darker shades end in .0 signifying warm undertones. You did mention one minor incorrect detail that I wanted to highlight for ladies on the darker spectrum who run warm/yellow/olive/golden when it comes to undertones and struggle find a good match. The 560 C shade of the Lancome Teint Idole is actually a cool undertone. Even though yellow visually isn't warm, it's classified as a warm undertone, not cool. The darkest shade with yellow is the 540 W which is my summer shade. Just thought I'd put it out there. Thanks!

I hate how darked shades of foundation are usually so red no one is that red! But you blend so well and makes it look like you own skin! Especially with products in the "darkest shade" and they are actually much lighter than your skin. You are so lovely ❤

Have you ever tried Sacha cosmetics? They are a brand that's only recently started to become popular on the international market mostly because of their "buttercup setting powder". They are based in and manufacture all their products inthe Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago to be specific). And they cater for almost all skin tones, including really dark chocolate skin like yours, since Caribbean people come in all shades.
