Medic here: definitely don't use the tampon for a bullet wound. Tampons are designed to absorb blood, yes, but not the volume involved with a bullet wound. They also break up quite often when saturated. That's why females swap them so often. You definitely don't want pieces of absorbent material inside of a wound. Debridement of an internal wound is not easy and leaves material conducive of infection... Good for females, but not for bullet wounds... If a patient has a bullet wound, or two or three or four or … you immediately protect yourself with nitrile gloves, face mask, and eye protection (splatter into the eyes = pathogen transfer.) immediately apply pressure to the wound(s) and elevate the wound. If the wound is on the trunk and direct pressure does not stop the bleeding (even with small calibers such as the 22 and 380, direct pressure rarely stops bleeding from a bullet wound) you should apply a hemostatic dressing INTO the wound and onto the wound. This hurts the pt. You're stuffing a hemostatic dressing into the wound. You need to mentally prepare the pt for this. Pretty much say "this is gonna hurt, but it's gonna help OK." Don't forget pressure. Hemostatic dressings laid on top of a wound offer no aid. Press it into the wound and continuously apply direct pressure. If the wound is on an extremely (arm, leg, hand, foot) and direct pressure doesn't stop the bleeding, you can apply a tourniquet ABOVE the wound. I've seen a few cases where bystanders applied the tourniquet below the wound... Always apply above... the tourniquet or hemostatic dressing should stop the bleeding. They can be used together on extremities. Once bleeding has been controlled, you absolutely have to treat and manage shock. The pt is susceptible to hypovolemic shock when massive blood loss occurs. You need to keep the pt breathing adequately and warm. Studies have shown that bending the knees offers no advantage to treating shock. You can do that if you wish, but know it is unnecessary and may put the pt in an uncomfortable position. You absolutely must be prepared to offer CPR in the event of a gunshot wound. Shock usually leads to cardiac arrest due to the hypoperfusion of the body's cells. If you come upon a pt suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds, the first thing you need to do is have 911 on standby. Call, put them on speaker, and start tending to the pt. It takes a whole 5 seconds... that's a lot of time, but EMS and ALS can do a LOT more than you or I can on your own. So the CAT tourniquet you have is awesome! I can't say thank you enough for having that! I would definitely suggest another pair of nitrile gloves, more sterile and absorbent gauze, and a hemostatic dressing. Great pack man! I love these videos!!! Please keep them coming!

Nice to see a REASONABLE edc. I am to the point where I usually cringe when I see someone using the word "prepper" as that usually means they have 3 guns, 100 rounds of ammo, 5 knives, 3 multitools, 16 fire starting tools, 4 different shelters, more medical supplies than an ambulance (most of which they don't even have the training to use), a rocket launcher, and a bag of angry cobras. Not one time in your two part video did I go "wait why the hell are you carrying that?" Nice setup and clever organizing system with the colors.

I have watched A LOT of EDC and BOB videos and while I get the contents and set up of most of the bags, many of the others seem just random and thrown together. I like the fact that you organize yours by need and separate the contents to make everything easier to find. I live in the city as well and spend a fair amount of time in my vehicle to and from work even though I live within 7 miles of my business. I have a small kit that compliments my main EDC bag and I often find myself wanting more organization in it. I really enjoyed the video and it gave me a lot more information and ideas than many other videos. Keep up the great work! Definitely gained a loyal subscriber tonight Take it easy and stay prepared!

TheUrbanPrepper My EDC pack really is my EVERY day carry pack. I've used it as my carry-on (and in one or two cases my only piece of luggage) a couple times since I started carrying it, so having a Dopp kit that just sort of lives in there makes packing that much easier.

WHAT!? No guns and ammo!? Dude, you're totally unprepared. ;) If my math is correct, your pack weighs 12 pounds total without the laptop, right? (Why didn't you include the total weight in your PDF?) That's half the weight of my EDC, but my EDC is also my get home bag, so it always has a liter of water, shelter making materials, and a couple extra double stack mags. (As an aside, do you keep GHB stuff in your car to add to your EDC to keep the weight down?) My IFAK is heavier, too--it's a blowout kit since I carry a firearm with me everyday at work. One thing you might want to include is small hemostatic agent packets, like these: tinyurl.com/mlx2h9n They are perfect for deep gouges and gashes, but won't help bullet wounds. But you have a tampon for that! Lol.

Whitfield Parham Ahhh!! I knew I forgot something. I'll edit the PDF tonight with the total weight. Yeah, it's around 12 pounds without the laptop. Definitely lighter than my previous EDC Backpack. I'll look into the packets!

Thanks for another great video TUP! Have you thought about using these (www.amazon.com/Monoprice-106457-Hook-Fastening-Cable/dp/B004AFUJZC/) instead of the silver twist ties? I think that this are more usable, less prone to being lost of broken, and are useful for other things besides cables.

MrPsygo That is a good point, didn't considered that. The reason why I asked is because, where I live I don't get as much rain as he seems to, but weather here is too unpredictable here so I always have my umbrella on my bag. Since he always mentioned rain as a vital part of Seattle I thought he would always have some form of rain protection on his bag.
@TheUrbanPrepper
@TheUrbanPrepper 9 жыл бұрын
2dividedby3 The version that I showed is more suited for the current weather (May/June). I will often times strap an umbrella on the top part of the backpack (e.g., top zipper pocket). I usually always have a jacket and hat when the weather calls for it, so I don't double those up in the bag.

I have hygiene stuff and charging stuff and lots of stuff, but it's mostly just thrown in there, literally, lol. Also, I like that you carry the full size of stuff, like a full size neosporin instead of just trying to carry a one time use item. I digress, great stuff, so many ideas. You have inspired me! @@HVG67 I pretty sure his bag with all contents weighs more than 15 pounds. the laptop alone weighs about 3 pounds. and his water bottle(16 ounces water) another pound. The blue wrench he has is another .46 pounds, and the pack itself is a whopping 3.4 pounds. Total so far there is 8 pounds. all that other stuff has got to add up to another 7-9 pounds. For an EDC bag, a good goal is to stay under 14 pounds. Its amazing how much weight you can cut out using labeled heavy duty ziplock bags instead of those divider pouches and then you can use those bags for all kinds of things if need be. my setup when Im done tweaking it through the week here I should get a video up on my channel sometime this next weekend will be right around 10 pounds.

Nice setup for an urban area. For a low key daypack I have the Maxpedition Testudo Laptop Backpack bag, though a little small for a day pack. The bag can hold a 17" or smaller laptop and the big inside pocket fits the AR500 soft Backpack Level IIIA Armor. Be careful for a backpack may label you as a homeless person and you may be shot by the police in ABQ (ABQ 2014 and in the Courts for now). Thank you for another great video ! tjl

Similar equipped, but more inclusive for four seasons. My INCH kit is 50Kg and I hope that it will never have to be used. Maxi pads collect blood that is being lost via menstruation, but that doesn't make them effective 'bleed stoppers' by any stretch of the imagination. The only things that stop bleeding is chemicals (e.g. QuikClot) and pressure (e.g. tourniquets, trauma bandages). Maxi pads will just laugh as they let you bleed out. On that note, tampons just trade a temporary fix for a longer term hazard after they break apart inside your body and you have to fish them out of your trauma cavity after it's all been clotted and stuck to your tissues, resulting in reopened bleeding wounds. Just use the stuff that's made for trauma, as I said trauma bandages, tourniquets, and QuikClot. Or at least something that approximates pressure, like a rolled-up t-shirt. Maxi pads and tampons are just prepper gimmicks that will get you killed.

I absolutely love your edc videos they helped me organize my bag by seperating into specific compartments too :3 the only thing I have to say would be to round off the edges of all the tubes like your toothpaste and such to prevent them from tearing your compartments :)

Yogesh Joshi I already EDC a folding blade, but I have the one on my multitool. I tried to make this one as close to TSA safe as possible, although it does have the precision cutting tool. Over the past 4 years I've found that I rarely if ever used the backup knife I carried in my EDC Backpack. So I decided to omit it. Same goes with the backup flashlight. For EDC purposes, I prefer having a BIC lighter over a ferro rod, which I feel is better suited for a survival kit.

Great video series and Great information. Only thing that is a personal quirk is the amount of stuff Hanging on the outside of the pack. Brings back memories of the old westerns where the chuck wagon came CLANKING along down the trail. Been a boarderline prepper since 1980 when I entered public safety service and had to outfit my rig with "what if" equipment. Thanks for your well thought out vid's...

Donald Radel Thanks for watching, Donald. I completely understand the hanging stuff. The bottle is often times not attached, but I like having the option to carry it. I haven't figured out a better way of having quick access to the whistle without attaching it externally to the backpack.

Regarding the electronics module, have a look at the HooToo Travel Wireless Router Battery Pack, Dual USB Wall Charger HT-TM04... not sure about the size, but this device is a dual charger plus it is a battery pack and a mini travel router. I personally don't have it but it is something I am eyeing for future purchase.

TheUrbanPrepper Good job again on your video and organization methods. Are you still using the Picnic Time Pranzo Insulated Lunch Tote or do you also fit your lunch in your EDC backpack too? Some suggestions for your modules: 1) Get the 100 pack of velcro wraps from Amazon for your cables instead of twist-ties. 2) Wrap some gorilla tape on your neosporin in case it bursts in your bag to help protect against it leaking all over your first aid module. 3) A combined compass with a mirror can be nicer for navigating a bearing, and can offer a signal mirror in the same piece. Keep up the good work!

Hello Doctor Urban,,,, New to your channel, it's been extremely informative. I'm been watching lots of your u tubes. I especially like the way you're going with the modules. At this point I'm trying to decide between the E bags or the Eagle Creek. I'm not sure which is your favorite right now. Also looking at a bag and do not want to draw attention. Any latest suggestions would be greatly appreciated? BB

Thank you for another awesome video. I've copied the idea of having a module based system in my EDC bag (5.11 Rush 12). Instead of a bandana I carry a buff style headband. I find that more useful for my needs.

This was a great series! I also have that backpack and sometimes hang a water bottle on the side. I ended up getting the ISOPOD-SMALL Fold-Up Pouch which I hooked to the webbing where you have your bottle attached. I like this pouch because I can use it as a water bottle (or whatever) holder or roll it up and out of the way.

Next time you're at TJ's keep an eye out for their store brand fruit bars. They're nothing but dried fruit (my favorite is Apple+Strawberry, assuming the ingredients list isn't a liar, all that's in it is apples and strawberries) plus, since they're a store brand they're dirt cheap at $1 a bar.

Cool organization. Awesome list of everything you could carry. But WAY too much stuff for EDC. Prepping has become an obsession for materialists and their gear videos. In a real emergency (or even a fire drill) you’d drop or leave 99 the items to save your life.

Is it really too much if there was a real grid down economic collapse? He will be stuck in the city with people who will be wounded because of the chaos and panic and possibly looters. I say for everyday he probably is but if it makes him feel secure and he wants to carry it then he should have it.
