The main Medical Module utilizes a red Eagle Creek Travel Gear Pack-It Clean Dirty Cube for containing all of the medical category kits (aka “folders”). The Clean Dirty Cube has two main zippered compartments. I use one of them for First Aid items and the other one for Trauma items. This module is intended to be stored in the main compartment of the Bug Out Bag for use in medical emergency situations. It is organized like a two drawer file cabinet, with each drawer containing multiple file folders. In this implementation, those file folders are kits for various medical categories.

Well, I promised I'd comment. Coming from a combat medical standpoint, if it were my aid bag I'd want the following: - airway- I know you had a naso in the other kit but maybe some J tubes or anther naso. - suture kit- it's really not hard to suture. We teach pre-med students how to do it in an hour. It's worth knowing and suture kits are small and light. - trachea kit- when all else fails you can always make a new airway. Also small and easy to learn. - IVs- easy to administer meds, fluids, antibiotics, etc. IVs are fairly easy to learn. Something to consider. -14 gauge or larger catheter for chest decompression - Asherman's chest seal for sucking chest wounds - chest tube kit- again, not as complicated as it seems. Just some food for thought. Good video.

Dick Fitzwell chest tube, iv, suture, ET, and 14+ gauge catheter for chest decompression? WTF lol I'm a military medic as well. I assume you're a whisky? That's fine and dandy for you, but for lay people and civi EMTs, NONE of those are within their scope of practice let alone something a civi would do in a prehospital setting. It's good to know and be able to do in a SHTF or WROL scenario, but that is definitely not something you should be suggesting lay persons carry edc. An edc medical kit is not an edc trauma and pre-ED kit. It's for minor lacerations, burns, and abrasions. Everything else should be left at home or in a higher echelon kit. Not an edc medical kit...

I found it interesting you included the MediHoney and silver impregnated dressing. I am a diabetic and have both on hand for whenever I have slow healing or non healing wounds. They are much better than the triple anti biotic ointments so many people swear by. Some very good professional grade items in your kit.

One thing I would like to recommend adding to your emergency kit is either a thumb drive or an SD card with your families and your personal medical information. If you don't want to use electronic media, some 3x5 cards laminated in plastic will suffice. Just place them in ziplock bag with a strip identifying it as personal medical information.

Yes, shock. Always a concern in any emergency or trauma situation! Emerg #s too. Also have concerns about some things such as wound irrigation, staples and catheter. Understandable in bug out situation and emergencies; however as someone who has had staples removed? Not necessarily what you would "choose" for family members unless using and removing staples is absolutely necessary! Anyone prepping equipment such as this should have first aid training at the very least. If considering this for use on strangers, personal protective equipment is key and would recommend a one-way valve CPR mask in to-go kit. Small enough and worth your health!

Great Job! Totally agree that making your own Med Kit is a great way to gain some knowledge of first aid skills you'll need to use the med kit effectively. I'm on that learning curve right now, going to use your kit as my model, Big Thx. I haven't read all comments or seen all of your videos so apologies for my repeating something already mentioned.The Mayo Clinic and others recommend Ibuprofen to relieve pain and swelling caused by burns. Might be good addition to your burn pouch. Possible additions to the "Tools" pouch: pen light, some duct tape, a bigger small mirror (for better self inspection of face etc. than the dental mirror), mini piezo bic lighter (back up sterilization), tweezers, Ammonia inhalant, super glue (adjunct to skin stapler), sewing needle (splinter removal), more gloves. Some items I didn't see but think might be valuable additions: sun block, insect repellent, after bite, epipen, cold pack, eye drops, triangular bandage (a little bulky but lots of bang for the space), finger splint, cayenne pepper (back up blood clotting method), ace bandage, more co-flex wrap. Love the modern wound dressings, I'm learning about them because of your video, Thx again. BUT how about adding some gauze sponges and pads. When some one starts bleeding bad or even a little there's a lot of clean up (blood management) to do before things are under control and you're ready to apply a dressing. That's it. Like the way you think, great channel, great info, really nice presentation style. Rock On!

Re the Aquacell Ag where you say putting it over a protruding # bone. NO. There should be no pressure over a protruding # bone. Instead use a triangular bandage to make a Donut bandage and place the ring of the Donut over the protruding bone. Then when you bandage the height of the Donut hold the bandage clear of the bone end. If you put any pressure on the end of a # bone protruding you the Pt would go thru the roof with pain or hit the bejesus out of you from the pain.

I really like the video, especially the justification behind each item. Far more people need to do that. I am jealous of your amount of funds available for some of these purchases though, I have to save up for the fancier stuff because I agree that it is far superior for a survival-type situation. Three quibbles/Food for Thought: Despite its appearance as an easy to use item, I have never heard a medical professional describe the SWAT-T as easy to use. I HAVE however, heard them say that it is very easy to apply incorrectly, leading to ineffective occlusion. On the other hand, "tactical" tourniquets, while scary and black in appearance, are really quite easy to use, and honestly hard to misuse. While I have never used the SOF-T you appear to have on hand, it is similar to the CAT that I have used. It is incredibly easy to use for me and has been demonstrated to be highly effective in occluding arteries. Just my opinion, I am sure you have your reasons My second thought is about gauze. All the points you make are valid, obviously. One thing though that I can't help shaking when viewing these videos is: what are you going to wipe up blood with? Once you have controlled the bleeding and you want to convert from a pressure dressing to some fancy-pants wound cover, you will need to be wiping up that blood somehow. You have various wipes and things, but like you said, gauze is absorbent and is basically designed for this task. H&H and NAR both make vacuum-sealed gauze rolls that are very useful in my experience and take up very little space. Lastly, and I am sure someone else is going to mention this: that Quickclot sponge. The zeolite in the original Quikclot products can produce large amounts of heat from an exothermic reaction when exposed to water, sometimes resulting in burns. I feel that with your whole approach of 'easy to use,' one of the newer hemostatic agents such as Chitosan or the Quikclot kaolin-based gauze products would be better suited as it removes the risk of sweat contact, not to mention that pesky stuff that falls from the sky so often in our neck of the woods. Still, a great video. Keep them coming.

+mistermanji Excellent comment! Thank you for providing so much valuable detail into it. Regarding the amount of available funds, I have a LOT of the items seen in this video donated to me. The remaining was purchased over years, so they weren’t just purchased in one big financial hit. Your information regarding the SWAT-T vs. CAT vs. SOF-T gave me an idea. I should really do a video comparison of tourniquets with non-experienced users to see which one is the most intuitive to them. I think that would be VERY interesting. I probably prefer the TK4 tourniquet that was previously shown in the Grab-N-Go video over the SWAT-T. I keep the SOF-T with my EDC backpack. I’m liking the video of a “Tourniquet Throwdown” though. It would be nice to have a true medical professional judge this kind of contest though. What do you think? Good point regarding the gauze and general cleanup/wiping, that goes beyond wipes, bandanas and other cloth. I have just ordered the H&H vacuum-sealed gauze rolls and will include a few of them with the Bleeding kit. Thanks for convincing me that the modern wound dressings should complement the gauze but not totally replace it. Can you send me the exact name of the Quikclot product, as listed on Amazon, that you recommend I should upgrade to over the current version? Thanks again for all of the expanded info!

+TheUrbanPrepper Well I certainly agree that a medical professional would be best for that test. Honestly, I would suggest a combat medic, as they use tourniquets far more often than civilian pre-hospital providers like Paramedics or EMTs.

Love love love it Mild to severe Allergic reaction , sting and for cold kit might come in handy just in case. Im not sure if this is included but just wondering. Dont forget angina attack. - im not sure where to classify that one. I could be wrong but I hope this helps . And also swelling or inflammation - and ice pack or warm pack and some nsaid might be helpful for sprain or strain .

I'd rather have a cat or sof-t than a swat. The swat isn't combat proven and for an emergency situation, I'd rather have something bigger but proven. I'm also switch the quik-clot sponge for the gauze. For penetrating trauma, the sponge can't be pushed deep enough into the wound, the gauze can. I'd also add some compressed gauze for wound packing and maybe a 5x9

Use for gauze... wound dressing. Having had the problem of a large mepilex pad being not big enough to cover a wound I have in the past cut the adhesive border from it and used gauze to affix two to the wound. yes in a bug out you could use string, clothing, whatever... but gauze at least let's you use something that doesn't detract from the rest of your BO kit. mepilex pads don't stick so well to hairy heads either, gauze is good for quickly fashioning a head bandage (allowing you to keep your triangular bandage for broken arms). Defo worth including a few rolls imo. Another thing worth covering is probably your training. none of these things are of use unless you know how to use them, at least in the UK there are local first aid courses available depending on your most likely user case, being a motorcyclist I favour the 'biker down' courses but I also have been a member of the Red Cross, highly recommend attending your local group if you have one.

Ive always enjoyed your videos. I don't like quick clot as it generates heat. The idea of blowing up a condom in the wound and using internal pressure is fancy but a bit gimmicky. I would use Celox every time. Pressure plus a haemostat element. Best wishes

For the mepilex Ag I have to warn you to not use NaCl Water with it cause the salt will destroy the Ag and reduce the efficence of the product. Better to use cloraxidine with it or sterile water without NaCl

Halo seal for pneumothorax trauma is a great add on Z fold dressing gaze are very usefull to pack wound A lot of medical tape/or duct tape Small light and pen (or better a pen light) for checking pupil and other place Water prof marker and paper to write the event with precise hour and minutes Whistle for help Vaseline is a mutilfonction item Small rule to messure wound Tweezers (the pointy and the large one) A bic lighter/ferro rod (for fire or sterilization) Sterile water and NaCl Water in small portion And different variety of needles Some pills of diffents types This littles upgrade cost almost nothing and will be a great add on

I personally a lot if your item are nice to have more then need to have. Personally many kit get to bulky because we had things we can do without. For example, pen light. Sure useful. Put i can use the regular lighting by making them closed and open their eyes. The hand warmer and cold back bring very little especially the cold pack that most of the time get crush and activated in your the bag. The gauze could be useful but there other items , for example a foley, that would take less space, multi use and same use.

Unless your gone administer Parenteral medication there no need for sterile liquid. If you can drink the water you can use it. It's a clean application one want to achieve not a sterile one

Nope, in a emergency situation you can be in the wood or on the road without water on hand. Tap water isnt sterile. Specialy in a bug out scenario or a SHIFT situation where the majority of sanitation are down. When you can put in and have it use sterile water. Tap water should be use only with superficial wounds.

Ok, total information overload ... I will probably have to go over this all again for my own needs some other time ... I have just 1 thing I dislike, and hopefully you will correct this by adding one, that is, you do not have any trauma scissors in the 'grab and go' kit. These scissors, in my mind at least, are really things you likely want to have quick access to, seeing both manual and visual access to a wound can help a lot in determining the proper cause of action. So having to go in the bag, in the module, in the folder, just doesn't seem 'right' to me. Yes, you may want to have one in there as well, but I would certainly put one in the grab and go as well ... other than that, really comprehensive kit, I know it's easy to say it's a small amount, but as it's a scenario driven kit that's all good, and I guess if you truly want to prep for the end of the world you will simply have to armor up an ambulance ;D ... this is not that scenario, so yeah, tnx for sharing. I could probably go on about how this is not entirely how I would organize these things, but seeing all is covered in a sensible way, there isn't really a need for that, I do like your take though. ^^ ... I think somebody already mentioned it, but it needs repeating: training, training, TRAINING!!! Cliff, I am a big fan of your channel, but on some of this video, I'll respectfully disagree.... Maybe things are different out west, but as a longtime working Paramedic here in the Northeast - I'm not even trained/authorized/would attempt a couple of the things you've got going on in this video...Foley caths, stapling wounds.... there are considerations beyond merely performing the procedure...just offering $.02

+firemanscan Thanks for the comment. I have posted a dedicated video prior to posting the actual Medical Module(s) that discussed the emphasis of training as well as other background information. The foley catheter was originally included because I have a family member who needs to use them (probably should have stated that in the video). It was small and lightweight, so I included it. I also have a dedicated video on the stapler, since I feel that many people include sutures in their kits and I wanted to present an easier alternative. For these type of videos, I try to dedicate the talking points to the contents of the kit itself and not as much into the prerequisites. For example, if I posted a review of a car (e.g., 2017 Honda Pilot) I probably wouldn't emphasize "training, training, TRAINING" with regard to driving and operating the vehicle. Not that driving training isn't incredibly important. It's just that the video was on the vehicle itself. I would mainly cover the features of the car and do a dedicated training video with regard to driving if I felt that I was qualified to speak on the matter. However, I don't consider myself a qualified medical professional to instruct on training. There are a lot of great KZbin channels that specialize in medical training videos. There are even more options outside of KZbin. I try to do my part in what I feel I am good at, which I feel is organization and the design of prepping systems. I hope this provides you with more information on my approach with this video. Sorry if you were disappointed video the video content.
