Don't know what I love the most about this, Midge creepily whispering 'The beat cannot be landed', Elton's fury, or Freddie's relentless flirting with Bono. Freddie replying 'of course' to Bono saying he doesn't want to make the day all about him in such a way that shows he thinks Bono's a tosser whilst also wanting to get in his pants is a real highlight.

I couldn't agree more!!! I stumbled across this little gem about a year ago and I've watched it at least 20 plus times. Live Aid was a bit before my time and I had never heard of Status Quo. Obviously the skit is an exaggeration of themselves, but I hope the Quo are like that in real life. When asked if they took the helicopter... "Oh ya, looking down everybody looked like little ants." "Uhh Rick we took a cab." So damn funny!!!

Roger Taylor got cut out of frame in this just the same as he was cut out of frame from the Live Aid performance... during Live Aid the cameras just focused on Freddie. Brian and John appear occasionally, mostly because Freddie was standing next to them, but the only shot of Roger's face is literally over Freddie's shoulder for, like, 2 seconds as the camera zooms in on Freddie playing guitar, other than that we got a couple shots of the back of his head as the camera was trying to capture the massive audience. Poor Roger. I'm become a huge Roger Taylor fan, but for this spoof I agree with the decision to edit him out of frame... it's the most subtle spoof I have ever (not)seen.

2:38 - With The Four Tops, Billy Ocean, Run DMC, Bo Diddley, The Temptations, Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle, Ashford & Simpson and Teddy Pendergrass something like a third of the USA bill was black artists (add another 4% to the total if you include the hispanic/black Santana), plus members of Chic guested with both The Thompson Twins and Led Zeppelin, plus Lionel Ritchie and Henry Belafonte both played significant parts in the USA show finale, plus Prince actually sent an exclusive video for them to play on the day, plus there were link ups to Kool and the Gang and BB King concerts in the UK and Netherlands respectively so it's not as if black artists were under represented. The London Live Aid concert was broadcast from 1200 GMT by both main USA feeds, they being ABC (mono and syndicated) and MTV (stereo, cable and satellite), though once the bands sets started overlapping both showed a bias towards the Philadelphia concert. What other absent popular black acts acts could they have asked? Michael Jackson? Asked but turned it down because of other commitments. Stevie Wonder? Asked, said yes and then changed his mind because there were not enough black artists initially billed. Prince? Wasn't touring at the time so sent a specially made video. The Pointer Sisters? Diana Ross? Both asked but were playing elsewhere that day (didn't stop Kool and the Gang, BB King and Cliff Richard contributing, not to mention link ups to the Japanese, Australian and German sister concerts, all contributing) Miles Davis? Asked but was seriously ill at the time. Donna Summer? Other commitments. There were plenty of black artists asked to play and plenty of black artists played, I don't see what your problem is.
