Documentary telling the story of the day that music rocked the world. Bob Geldof recalls how, after 12 weeks of manic preparation, the big day finally arrived. But would it work, would the punters watch, and more importantly would they part with their cash?
Bob Geldof and his team recall their fear of how the whole thing might fall apart at any minute. Stars from the day itself - Elton John, Queen, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, U2 and a whole host of others - remember walking out to face a crowd of 72,000 and a global audience of billions. And those who watched it at home, including Tony Blair, JK Rowling and Helen Fielding, recall how they didn't miss a minute of this extraordinary event.

Producer: Kate Werran

this was just such an enormous and amazing event. I was 16 and watching in a sleeping bag in my Dad's lounge room for 12 hours. All my heroes (British) were playing. But for me it was U2 that completely stole the show, I think that was the day I fell in love with Bono! Yeah I know Queen did the huge stadium rock thing but for me it was U2 that was really heartfelt. The whole event was miraculous, who could do what Geldof did? No sleep for days on end and back seizures by the end...

4:49 When Moyet, Townsend, Geldof and Bowie joined Paul on stage, a DJ here in the states hollered out that a Beatles Reunion was taking place with Julian Lennon standing in for his father. Rumor had it that this would happen because George Harrison had flown into London on business the week of the concert. The DJ, to her creidt, backpedaled almost immediately.

Considering this is the sixth and final part of a three-hour documentary on Live Aid, it would be odd if they didn't end it with the end of the show itself. Queen played their main set three hours before Paul(although when Paul entered the stage, Freddie and Brian May had just done a bonus song; with them as well having had technical difficulties). As fond as I may be of Queen, I think it would be nice to have some perspective on who's who here. For a British band, Queen had done remarkably well in America before Live Aid in 1985, with two of their songs getting to number one in the American charts[Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Another One Bites the Dust]. The guys in Genesis managed the same feat in 1986. (In the 2000s, Adele managed four!) Paul McCartney would have had nine(9!)...AFTER The Beatles: Uncle Albert(Admiral Halsey), My Love, Band On the Run, Listen To What the Man Said, Silly Love Songs, With a Little Luck, Coming Up, Ebony and Ivory and Say Say Say. (Most of these with Wings) As he would have had at least a dozen[20 actually] as a member of The Beatles, there shouldn't be ANY question who ranks highest in the pecking order of pop! This is just a fact! And 20 years later, of course, it didn't matter if you were Bono...if Paul McCartney wanted to open AND close the show, who was going to tell him 'No, you can't!'?

Benjamin Joseph Kidd-Bentley exactly and now Scotland's minister wants to break up the United Kingdom? I am American, and I live in England, and I love Scotland, and love Scottish people, I've had so many wonderful holidays and vacations in Scotland and it would break my heart if she broke up the United Kingdom. I do hope it doesn't happen. She doesn't represent all of Scotland, only some of the people want independence, but most don't. I hope she doesn't get what she wants. 300 years of of United countries, would come to an end. She's being so selfish. I'm so sorry if that offends any Scottish people common but that's just my considered view. I am now a naturalized British citizen having lived here since 1987, with a British wife, and British kids, and see myself as a British person. I pray this great country stays together.

LIVE AID Just wouldn't work today. There's no truly awesome performers, personalities, musicians or artists that have been allowed onto the stage. There's only fake manufactured celebrities with sterile music they didn't even write in the first place. That's because even music itself has been turned into a business. Real musicians don't do it for profit. They do it because they face torment otherwise. Music is stale now. That's the way it will be unless something drastic happens.
