URBAN SKETCHING TECHNIQUE - Ink and Watercolor | City Scene | Full Process Demo

This video shows the full process of urban sketching using pen, ink and watercolor and it is done in easy steps.
-we will first analyse the scene and reference photo, so we can draw in good proportion;
-then we will make a simple pencil sketch;
- with a fude fountain pen we will build up details, on top of the previous sketch;
- after the sketch in done, we will watercolor it! The fun part :)
- to the end we will add a few light and dark accents to increase the contrast and make the urban sketch really pop!

this was a great tutorial! im a beginner and it really helps me to see the process from start to finish. i also like your style, hope you will do more videos like this :). One of the more difficult things for me is deciding what colours to use to make the painting look interesting.

I very glad you like it :) I will try to do more in this style, I am also trying to experience with different styles also....About the colors, for me is also hard to know exactly, but one thing that helps is that I mostly use my Daniel Smith tube watercolors and I only have a few of them..6 in total I think. I think it's also about trying to mix them, and very rarely use pure pigment... (I'm very sorry for answering you so late...for some reason, KZbin doesn't send notification when I receive a reply comment)

This is so so beautiful. I really want to paint like this, but my sketching gets smudged everytime I use watercolor on fineliner pens. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much! Hmmm...I guess you need to make sure that the ink in the fineliner is waterproof, i’m not sure if all of them are. Then I guess it’s good to let the ink dry a bit and them come over with watercolor. Another thing that crosses my mind is the paper, I think that on cold pressed watercolor paper that has more texture the ink enters better, on hot press or more patinated paper the ink tends to float a bit, before it enters the paper, so I guess you would need to wait a bit more for it to dry....It’s always good to try in advance on a corner/small piece your pen fineliner with water, to see how water resistant it is...Just experiment! You can get interesting results also with ink that isn’t waterproof 😊
