Me too. It’s the simplicity that attracted me to fishing. I wouldn’t be interested in sitting on a bank and fishing one spot. I want to move and go hunting for fish. The trill of the chase 👍🏻

Enjoyed the video, I am an avid tenkara fisherman and used to live in Prior Park Cottages which I think is very close to where you were fishing. I live in Christchurch but the Avon and Stour are both like chocolate in full flood and unfortunately we have no canal nearby.

Yes very close to Prior Park Cottages, the locks just off horseshoe walk. All the brooks and streams are the same round here also. Last time I fished on the Midford brook was about 2 weeks ago and I didn’t catch anything. So for now it’s the canal. I’m not a fan of still water fishing but it’s better than not fishing. Let’s hope we get a run of dry weather before the end of December so we can get in for the last of the grayling season.

Hi, just learning about Tenkara before I start buying. Please could you explain about the line you’re using, line, leader, tippet, is that correct? And is it a specific Tenkara line? Do you have a link to your landing net. Many thanks.

So there are a few different types of line used for tenkara. Furled lines, probably the best line to start with as it’s easy to see and casts easily, it’s what I started with. Then you have fluorocarbon level level line, which is basically a heavy gauge fishing line that’s a bright colour and relatively easy to see depending on the light conditions. There are several other lines but if your starting out I’d just start with these. There are many places you can buy these lines. Just google tenkara line and Sotho h in your country will come up. Here is a link to the handy pak net www.handypaknetco.com. It’s also available on Amazon and eBay I believe. Hope this helps

Nice. I'm also a tenkara enthusiast recently moved to near Taunton. Already exploring the Bridgewater to Taunton canal and the river Tone. Lots of great water for chub, roach and perch

Great stuff. It’s nice to talk to a fellow tenkara enthusiasts here in the U.K. Let me know how you get on. Have you ever fished the drains on the Somerset levels. It’s something I’m looking at exploring possibly in the new year. 👍🏻

@@tenkarafanatic yes, I've had a few sessions on the levels. Very productive pike on fly. Not tried tenkara on the drains yet but I hear there are some very good roach, rudd and perch spots

Are you new to fishing?? Not to be rude but your striking them little fish like there large mouth bass and you also thought a roch was a bream.
@tenkarafanatic Жыл бұрын
Yep. I mostly fish for trout. So if it’s not a trout then I have very little idea. I do try my best to identify them but as you can see I’m not the best.

Tenkara is basically like fishing a whip for beginners but with a fly ?
@tenkarafanatic Жыл бұрын
To be honest I wouldn’t know what a whip was. I’ve only ever tenkara fished. I like the simplicity of the method. I like to keep it simple. I like to be in the water also. Not really interested in sitting on the bank. I like the idea of having everything I need to fish in my shirt pocket and a compact rod. It’s a take anywhere system no big kit bags or baits to worry about. Just the rod a line or two some tippet and a hand full of flies. Simple. Easy. 👍🏻

@@tenkarafanatic yes pretty much same as a whip

How do you decide when to use a furled leader or a level line leader?
@tenkarafanatic Жыл бұрын
I just go with the level line 99% of the time. Just my preference
