In this video, we head within the massive Sion Mill complex in Northern Ireland. The site dates as far back as the 1600s, going into administration in 2011 and contains some rusty machinery and extensive natural decay.

What a beautiful old building, I can only imagine the noise of the machines and all the workers busy working away. The views were amazing. Such a waste now left to decay and rot, very sad. Thank you for this video. 💕🇦🇺

I think that's why we appreciate these industrial abandonments even more, because there is such a visible change since they were used, particularly the silence. No worries, glad that you enjoyed the feature

Hi Guys, I live and grew up right next door to this Mill (literally a stone's throw away) and I have never seen what it was like inside the grounds my whole life. My grandparents both worked and met at this mill so it means a big deal to my family. Thank you so much for this video

Great video but very sad to see those beautiful historic buildings fall into such decay, soon to be swallowed up by nature and neglect. We pronounce it Sion Mills not Seeon Mills. Such amazing buildings in this village but many sorely need some TLC.

What an amazing building that should have been saved and repurposed. On the plus side if it was not in this state then there would not have been an equally amazing video. Really love your appreciation and acknowledgment of the architecture and the subsequent deterioration. As a retired engineer I love this type of content and thanks for the early viewing. Have a Merry Christmas and looking forward to your creations in 2022

Sadly, it seems a little too late to repurpose this impressive building. We think it will stay deteriorating for years to come. We have a genuine appreciation for these sites and their historical appearance through their design. No problem, thanks for the support :)

I think its absolutely amazing how any building gets vandalized like this with in 10 years it really paints a picture in our minds of what it used to look like thriving with workers my favorite videos of 2021 has got to be the courthouse which was amazing and the British Airways training building but its very hard to pick one as they were all amazing and moving like we were with you thanks for the amazing videos that you have made and uploaded for us throughout 2021 have a good Christmas and a pleasant start of the year Thanks Lads :)

Thank you very much! We loved the architecture of the courthouse and the scale and history of the British Airways training centre, so they are definitely up there with our personal favourites too. Glad you enjoy the videos, many more coming, bigger and better in the new year :)

The tubes are flax bins, and the mill closed around 2004, and the company that owned the mill went into receivership in 2011 as I'd started my visits from 2009 onwards and there was already evidence of natural decay, That newer loft-style section along with the chimney had been restored for new use but I think then it was already going downhill, they've demolished a lot of the smaller buildings since the first fires. But also when the lottery winner bought the mill, at that point something then could have been done,. but she fought with the sporting clubs that used the grounds and ended up throwing them out, only to be left for further damage and decay.
@Urbandoned
@Urbandoned 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying that, mate. I agree, something should have been done when the building was bought and it's such a shame that little has been.

You asked for input on favourite explorations this past year. You know I have appreciate the videos you produce for some time now. I will say that this one about Sion Mills was likely one of my top favourites. Very interesting. I can only imagine what it might have been like to have lived and worked around this place more than a hundred years ago. As for other programs, I liked the Scottish orphanage, religious mansion in northern England, the courthouse, the Irish boys school, the mental health department and the Scottish 'ghost town' to name a few that I liked. You are historians, in a sense, recording little parts of history around the UK. I have commented previously that you respect properties and do not disturb artifacts. Thank you for doing this. Here in this part of Canada's prairies there is very little in the way of buildings like you have in the UK. In this past year I have 'explored' abandoned schools, homes, barns, townsites that no longer have any buildings, etc. It is always a thrill when I spot something in the distance and find a way to the place. There is an old flour mill in the city where I live and it has been abandoned for more than 10 years. I will be checking with a real estate agent in the new year to see if there is a way to explore. Guys, keep up the good work. Your videos are interesting and informative. Kudos. ~ david

Thank you so much for this comment and the abundance of places that you enjoyed. It's so important to us to visit these places and not disturb how they were left or progress their damaged states further, so good to know that it's noticed. Everywhere has places like we have here in the UK, Canada will be no acception! Just have to search closely for them and you'll come across them. Thank you again for the constant support :)

The Mill created the village, and its left to rot and be vandalised. So many important, historical buildings in the surrounding area seem to have been targetted by arsonists, and strangely replaced by housing soon after... My grandmother lived across the river 80+ years ago when she was a teen. Walked over the "swinging bridge" (which has been replaced numerous times since). I am sure the majority of the locals have a tie to this mill. So much history.

Another example of how, of the 4 home countries, the people of N Ireland give less of a toss about their cultural heritage and historical environment. Ironic bearing in mind how often there is so much wittering about ‘ the loss of our culture’. Piss poor.
