BEAUTIFUL Packed Abandoned 200 year old Mansion *Filled w/ ANTIQUES

This historical old house was built in the early 1800’s. It would remain in the same family for over a century until the final descendants of the family and elderly widow donated all the land too the town for hiking trails and parks as hiking was favorite past time of hers. Hopefully the house is aged and restored for future generations just glad I could document this old place on film. Thanks for watching

Some more history, left to dissolve into time as we scratch our heads and marvel. This one has some noble and classy signatures about her. At one time, someone was, not only capable and prosperous, but ambitious. Again we see that that's not hereditary, especially as society changes and politics rules our environment. But the history is there to remind us how talented and busy were our earlier counterparts. What a difference 100 years make. Can America survive? TY for the tour, Kappy. They sure knew how to build them back then!

We can almost still hear the laughter of the children as they run through the hallway....This is my most favorite period of American home. We should remember when these homes were built they had no telephone radio or television or any distraction , working on a house like this as they did their daily chores was a combination of lifestyle of God , work, and entertainment.

Kappy, you've documented some houses that have restoration potential but this old gem could be restored and updated. I hope someone is going to get to work on this house. I wish I had the money to do it. From the old kitchen when you first walked in that had the 1848 oven in the brick wall to the Rumford style fire places throughout the house the entire house has "character" and historical features throughout. What an amazing house.

Love this find! I really like the ‘Photographers staged items’! You can really feel that this is a home and someone loves this house, and made it feel welcoming and homey! I can see a photographer taking pics of a ‘bride to be’ in this setting.

I don't know why I find these video's sad. I guess watching them is a reminder or our own mortality. People or families live their entire lives in a home. Then, they pass on leaving the home abandoned. All those generations of people who lived and died in that home. Let's hope they all enjoyed happy lives.

Hello Kappy, I'm glad to see that you made it through that bramble forest to get to this lovely old house! Did you notice the metal doors leading to the cellar to the right of the door you used to enter the house, Kappy? They could have been in case of inclement weather or to deliver coal. I almost missed them, but as I watch each of your videos as many as ten times, I noticed those doors and thought I'd mention them. I guess we'll find out later on. Well, they've left the door open for you! It seems that a visitor left a brand new basket (looks like a purse?) on the shelf by the open door! It's too shiny and new to have been there for very long. There may well have been a cow or two lodging in that front room, as we've seen a few times before. The small door to the left might indicate that there was a dog coming and going at will into and out of this house. That little room with the built-in cabinets does seem like it was a small kitchen or maybe even a pantry. The white-painted rafters in the large room are amazing and quite old. The fireplace is lovely and it even has its own bread oven! That cast iron trim on that does help to date this house. The fireplace can't have been built before 1848. Good eye, Kappy! The recessed place behind the white wingback chair may have been for firewood. Quite a handy addition to a busy kitchen! I've learned quite recently that rooms such as this large one with the big fireplace aren't always kitchens, but are sometimes called "keeping rooms" and are usually adjacent to the kitchen. The purpose of a keeping room was to allow cooking to go on while the cook was "keeping company" with guests, who often stayed to share the meal and visit into the evening or perhaps spend the night. I do like the built-in cabinets in the large kitchen! How lovely they would have been, filled with the family's collection of china, crystal and silver serving pieces! The timbers in the ceiling give it such a homey touch! How pretty this room is! It was doubtless designed by the hand of a woman who knew her way around a kitchen! You're absolutely right, Kappy, in that this house has definitely been staged by someone, probably whoever left their basket. It's so weird that the photographer went to all the trouble to stage the place and the leave all their stuff behind! Some of the items they've used are quite valuable, so I'll just bet they're coming back. It could even be that you interrupted their work! Or perhaps they left in such a hurry that they didn't care about their valuable antiques! Beware of slamming doors or thumps that aren't buzzards, Kappy! 👻 Those pictures on the walls are ribbon embroidery pieces. The needleworker uses sheer ribbon rather than thread to create designs of flowers. It's difficult to do, but very pretty when stitched properly. This house is very stately, even bordering on being a manor, with all the beautiful millwork, towering windows and many pocket doors, not to mention the finely finished timbers in the front room with its gorgeous and carefully finished brick fireplace. There was a lot of money invested in this house, to be sure, and my mind easily furnishes its rooms with elegant china, glittering crystal and shining pewter, along with pieces of fine furniture and fascinating bric-a-brac from various lands. These people were American gentry and not just country folk. I wish we knew their history and family connections. I wonder what the name of this beautiful home and its accompanying real estate is. Surely, a house this grand was given a name. Even our own humble property with its cozy bungalow was given a proper name. We live at Primrose Corner, named for the wealth of wild pink primroses which bloom riotously in every nook throughout the spring and early summertime. The earlier construction of this house may have been quite simple, as indicated by the arched fireplace. The more elegant dwelling was probably constructed after the family had accumulated sufficient surplus of funds to build a more gracious and comfortable home, along with acquiring the servants needed to keep it operating properly. I can easily imagine this house in its glory, with much beautiful wallpaper or painted plaster walls and rich draperies at its sparkling windows. The (probably enslaved) servants were kept busy in the kitchen and in keeping the house ready at all times for the guests who would revel in a visit. There was a lot of graffiti in the other section of the house, in nearly every room. It was painted over, apparently by the photographers. Traces of it are still visible on the walls behind the dark grey paint. Over the small red covered table in the dining room there is some remarkable wallpaper still visible. It dates from the very late eighteenth to very early nineteenth century. It shows delicate garlands of leaves with little birds fluttering among their blossoms. Kappy panned across the table and then upward. It was then that I caught a glimpse of the mesmerizing wallpaper. Perhaps those of us who love wallpaper can catch a glimpse of its beauty, protected by plaster and unfaded. What an imposing front door! It's a pity that some idiot splashed a bucket of blue paint on it, marring but not hiding its magnificence. Such a lovely welcoming foyer is waiting inside the door, its spacious width filled with light streaming from windows on the upper floor. It is simply breathtaking! The wallpaper on these walls, like that on the ceiling, is a much later addition. What a pity the banister and its styles are missing. Oh well, our imaginations can replace them! Here is another room showcasing more of the masterfully crafted millwork which fills each room of this house! How lovely, yet an odd counterpoint to the coarse, primitive beauty of the fireplace with its arched opening. Well, at least it appears that there was an artist in the group of vandals who sought to besmirch this house's undeniable beauty. That portrait of a young woman which engulfs the fireplace, mantel and all, is quite well done and very attractive. Oh! There is another arched brick fireplace in this room! It is so hidden by the portrait of the lady that it could easily be overlooked. I wonder if this is an older section of the house or simply the domicile of a bohemian artist who liked Southwestern architecture. We will not know, only guess. So we've completed a circle through this wonderful house's lower level! It looks like there's nowhere to go but upward, so let's go, gang! These upstairs mantle pieces and fireplaces are very pretty and show again the hand of a master carpenter. I'm glad they haven't been salvaged, though the hands of vandals lay very heavily on these rooms. Large holes in doors and walls speak of youthful strength and energy wasted on vandalism. What a pity it could not be better utilized! How interesting is the design of the wall beside the entry door, curving around to the closet door. Several of the rooms feature this curved wall and it is so feminine, I think those must be ladies' bedrooms. It's a wonder that the attic is completely unfinished. How much more room it would add to the house if only that immense void were turned into additional rooms! Now, to solve the riddle of the lost stairway. Oh! It goes to the section of the house over the would be cow/dog pen! What a nice place to sleep! Don't count sheep, just sheepdogs! Anyway, it appears that this disconnected section of the house may have been the older part of the house. This theory is supported by the presence of what appear to be King's boards in the floors of this section of the house. It may not have been connected to the newer section to mitigate the damage from any possible fire. As it was customary in those times for unmarried ladies' and gentlemen's accommodations to be kept quite separate, it could have been used for that purpose, as a guesthouse of sorts. It could also have provided (and was probably used for) excellent servants' quarters, though the discovery of a set of workers' apartments among the outbuildings makes this situation unlikely. Now for the basement. That's a big coal radiator, Kappy. This explains the coal chute metal doors near the open door you entered at first. The basement is quite interesting in its own right. The different rooms could have been used to store food or dry goods, as well as wine. It is befitting such grandeur upstairs and reminiscent of the basement of the mighty and magnificent Biltmore House of Asheville, North Carolina. Outbuildings! How fun! Good on you, Kappy, for knowing the difference between handmade and manufactured bricks! That's probably originally a carriage house, being used for the motorcars which came later. I've never seen worker's quarters quite like those. They're like apartments and quite interesting. All in all, Kappy, this house goes straight to the Very Best of Kappy's Videos playlist. The house is very well preserved, graffiti notwithstanding, and could be restored without touching the million dollar mark. It could offer a fascinating look into the life of an eighteenth and nineteenth century gentleman farmer. The out buildings could be used as exhibits of period handicrafts, such as pottery making, basket weaving, quilting, weaving of cloth and woodworking. What a marvelous historical opportunity! Good on you, Kappy! You've really brought us a great house this time! I daresay this manor would rival Monticello or Mount Vernon, if only it were properly restored. Thanks so much for ferreting this one out for us. I don't know how you do it, but you've got the touch! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with next, courageous explorer! I know it will be something wonderful because I know your determination to keep up your reputation as the best, bravest, most informative and honorable explorer of them all. Happy trails, Kappy! The "bones" of this old house seemed to be pretty sturdy compared to many of the other houses you have featured. It is a shame that someone doesn't refurbish this beautiful house before it is too late. It seems odd to me that someone would bring in all of those pieces of furniture, pictures and other items for a photo shoot and then just leave them all there when they were finished. Not very often that one sees an old place like this with neat stuff left behind and then to have it cleaned up a bit and arranged for urbex photographers who really did a nice job of it. There is nothing sadder than to watch the decay of homes who once were housed with families that they loved and provided life for. Houses are alive, their very wood absorbing the energy of the lives lived there. There is no more tragic waste than this. In my eyes they should all be saved. I especially love the Gothic home and the one with the Octagon Tower. Though I'd pass on none of them.

Amazingly the floors in a lot of the house was clean …a few were kinda dirty…and alot of furniture and stuff was surprisingly nice and organized which makes me wonder if someone or a family might be squatting there in warmer temperatures. The antiques are gorgeous while it looks like some updated furniture is there also. Amazing home thank you again Kappy ❤

The part of the house that’s not connected must have been the servant’s quarters. You’d need a lot of servants just to keep all of those fireplaces stoked. This has to be one of my favorite homes yet!

I love the front porch. !! And just look at that fireplace 😳!! And those beams in the ceiling😳!! Such a pretty front door also !! That door way for the Pocket Doors was amazing !! I believe that this old home deserves another chance at life such a solid old home . I just love the detail on the overhang and above the windows !! Just shows how beautiful these old homes were made great video as always Kappy !!
