House was built in the mid 1800’s , originally built as a hotel for the town! Probably one of my favorite houses I’ve ever filmed, really loved the front porch with a staircase, the huge brick chimneys and the unique wooden spiral staircase inside. Thanks for watching

The drawers were made with "dovetail" joints. It's one of the ways to tell how old the piece is. It's a shame this house has went so far downhill. Someone was proud of it at the time it was built. I live in an old civil war town. They really keep them up. My x used to help "rescue" some of the old places here. You knocked it out of the park again Son. Thanks for taking me along! Keep up your great work!

Virtually all joints in any piece of furniture above IKEA quality are dovetails. The uniformity and close spacing of that joinery suggests a factory piece from the early- to mid-20th century. It's a nice enough piece, but not really very valuable.

Great house! This house was added onto several times throughout the years. The main section is the earliest section, probably early 1830's. This section has the prettiest Fireplace mantels and the fireplace openings are bricked in the "Rumford" style . Most of the larger dark monogamy furnishings are of the empire period and probly were original pieces of furniture for the early section the bricked columned front porch is probably a replacement . I can tell that you like door knobs and usually point out the round porcelain ones which are usually late 1890's , early 1900's. Look for the early iron box locks and the early thumb latches. Love your exciting tours of these great pieces of architecture!

It’s so sad that it’s deteriorating. They just don’t build or make things like they used to. People took pride in the work they did and were true craftsman. " oh, I'm not gonna go over there...well....maybe" had me laughing, seeing all the antiques, and esp the piano had me crying. It looks like the hotel part was added onto the original small house. In one of your stills near the end, (door on left, fireplace center & exterior window on the right) you can see through that window into what would have been the original house- if I have my layout correct. Thanks for the tour. I started photographing abandoned places in 1985 and I have three words of wisdom for you. Steel toed boots!

I’m from South Carolina and I love the southern homes from the past. Beautiful home . Too bad all those old chairs are going to waste . I find old chairs in antique stores just like the ones in this house and they can be very pricey. Thanks for sharing 💕

Hello from Palm 🌴Springs, CA! Loved this massive old place. 1925. Wow Maybe no one lived there since then. That was a wood burning "stove " in that bedroom. My Grandmother had one upstairs in the attic of her house to heat the room. I remember i slept up there when I was a kid on vacation. it was 1961. She died the following year. Memories ❤ Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous!! The woodwork and the antique furniture left behind is so beautiful. A rather large family must have lived there originally. Maybe it was used as a Bed and Breakfast later on? Thanks Kappy for another amazing find. Stay safe and can’t wait for the next one. 😊

@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 actually looks to have been built as a single-family home, four rooms, two up two down. You can see the vertical seam on the end of the house where the first edition was made.

I read another comment that suggested the original house was raised & another level/floor built under it, then added onto over the years. Back in that era, these kind of houses were built in sections, added on as the family's need, over the years as they became more prosperous plantation owners..... I've never heard of this before (raising a house to add another under it), but it makes sense. Points were made about the different roofs & add ons like the porch. Also explains the beautiful piano being "upstairs", it was already in the original house when it was lifted.... Thinking on it now, I can't see the piano making it up the beautiful (perfectly built) spiral staircase. With a hoist, maybe thru the upper porch doors but they didn't seem large enough. I also noticed differences of fireplaces, the upper fireplaces are all the same smaller size & all plainer, less ornate. Lower fireplaces are all the same size, larger & all are fancier, beautifully ornate. The front entry tho....to me seems out of place. Even tho it's double door, it still seems small & plain for a house this size with such unique beauty. Was there a smaller house right off the back? I wonder what it was for & how the floor plan is inside.

Thank you Vivian so much! I would have not thought they could do something that intense back then, but they had some very smart people then too. I thought this house was outstanding, and I’m glad it is somewhat standing today.

Hitch up the horses to a cable and thread it thru a reel. Then walk the horses out from the house and bring it thru the balcony doors. Once it's on balcony a couple guys can roll it into place where they want it..( IV moved panio before and the hard part is steering it)

I wish I had the money... Looks like only that one section from the roof leak down has the most damage. I think it could still be fixable but it would be extensive. It would be interesting renovating it. Maybe something interesting in the walls? I’m going to buy a lottery ticket. Then I’d give you the place, Kappy. I can see you sitting on the porch with a iced sweet tea now.

Welcome to South Carolina..my home state. I think anything that was built in the 1800's should be perserved. One day most of them will be gone..plus some of that furniture.so sad. that last table was beautiful!!!! Glad you were careful while walking through the house, didnt you fall in a recent video??

Kappy I'm living the two verandas and French doors in front of them! Its beautiful, and it might also have been a rooming house, at one time.Reeks of history ,how many people have lived in here its amazing to think of it. To bad there's not an historic picture of it in its hey day, it must have been majestic! That looks like a wash basin. I'm wondering who was this built for originally, the fridge looks like its from the fifties. Thanks kappy, its a great find!!

Lots of of quality details in this house. I loved the fireplaces, the curved staircase and the huge bedrooms and yes that heavy metal object in that bedroom is a parlor stove. I am wondering if that extension at the back of house was a Summer kitchen?
