Built in 1803 Along the coast not far from the Atlantic Ocean, really glad I was able to film this beautiful historic old American house! Such a great setting with a long driveway lined with big trees covered in Spanish moss. Wish I could share all of the history of this house but unfortunately that would give away its location! Incredible details and woodwork inside & a very misleading wallpaper but still neat!

Yeah I'd say they didn't have the funds for a full restoration but put what money they could afford into bracing and roofing in hopes that they or someone else would have said funds in the future.

The museum I work for owns an old general store that was originally a church built in 1780s. It has stood the test of time and the State Historic Office explained that because it is up off the ground with an open foundation it's less likely to rot. Good air circulation means few bugs or molds. This beautiful house is likely still standing for the same reason. I hope it's restoration is only on a short pause and that the project continues. Lovely place.

Pier foundations are very common for old houses in SC. The water table is frequently too high for a basement, especially that close to the coast. They also allow lots of air circulation underneath for rot prevention, as you well observed, but also help keep the house a little cooler during the absolutely miserable summers down there. Kappy observed that the piers are about 2 1/2' high, which sounds right. There was an old wives tale believed for a long time that termites won't climb higher than 18". Wish it were true! My great-grandmother's house in Hampton County, SC (ca. 1870s) was built on piers like that. The yard chickens absolutely loved it under there in the summer. Just *charming* to be awakened by a rooster crowing almost right underneath your bed at sunrise! ;) And Kappy, thanks again for another stunner. :)

The house looks as if it's waiting on someone. Everything is so well organized and no graffiti. The door knob is vintage brown porcelain, probable made in the 19th century and still make today by restoration experts. You must be on or near the sea islands of South Carolina. The house looks familiar. If you get a chance visit Edisto Island. Lots of history to discover. Great find. Cheers from Coastal South Carolina

It is a shame these old homes fall into disrepair but you could probably build a brand new home with what it'd cost to redo some of these. Even though it'd be great to have a restored historical home, most people would probably go with investing in a brand new house before fixing these up...including myself because it'd be a new home, everything new. Not that it'd be built as distinctive with the old fashioned charm, but way more practical and updated.

Good Afternoon Kappy . I think I worked on a house near there ! Notice the outside corners downstairs . That's one of the reasons it still stands . Outside and inside , the shoring (bracing) was installed for the safety of the workers . Looks to me like , it might be a salvage of materials for resale . The quality of the materials and workmanship they built houses with back then, disappeared a long time ago, in the race for a quick profit. So sad. Thank you for preserving the original workmanship of this house, forever in this video!

Great house! So historical! Love the way all these old houses are built! So sturdy with sturdy materials! That seems smart of the owners to prop this house up. Very cool to find a house from 1803. It's like a time capsule. I personally, like how the stairs were facing the back of the house, it seems to make the upstairs bedrooms less assessable and more private from guests, or visitors at the front door. The outside structure of the house is pretty unique , I haven't seen any others with the shape of the roof, that this one had. It is amazing how the outside of house fools one's eye into making you think that , it is bigger than it actually is. I could imagine a horse and buggy traveling down that tree lined road. With all of the wind, I first thought of Tornados, as we recently had a Tornado Watch, but I am guessing, that is not the case; it is just the wind off of the ocean. Well, stay safe, and Thanks for the video.

You will almost never find basements in the south. Either the ground is too high clay content to allow drainage or it's a flood plain. It all boils down to too much likelihood for flooding. Also, the high humidity means mold and mildew.

This was a awesome find Kappy!! I don't know how you hunt these houses down, but as long as you're exploring, I'm following you!! I love this old house, made my husband watch the explore on the big screen tv in the livingroom, he loved that house too!! If we were young again, I think that's what we would be doing, meaning renovating the old house!! The wood trim and the size of the rooms are so awesome! I loved the huge hallways too!! Thanks for sharing Kappy, Peace, Kim ~

What a beautiful house. Who ever has tried to restore it has either ran out of money or just gave up. I hope it gets saved

I really wish that you could give us details about who lived there and their life story, that would be really epic to put person's with the settings. I understand that you don't want to give out the location because of lunnies, but some of us don't want to go anywhere and live out our lives just buy watching people like you. Thanks for sharing this.
