We decided to fit a Thule omnistor awning to our self-built van conversion and fitting the Thule awning turned out to be a total nightmare because it was just me holding the awning, this job really should be done by two people but there was no way I was having Emma up a ladder holding an awning. #vanconversion #thuleawning #urbanvanlife

Hi guys I put a fiamma f45s o;my mk7 transit a couple of months ago all works like a charm went to Devon four times since the all great until the last time we were there went out fir the day came back to the campsite setup and had a chill later that day we decided to go out for tea so wife got ready i unplugged the electric and tv Ariel put keys in the ignition and began to drive off forgetting I still had the awning pegged the floor and the tension rafter in place it ripped halfway through the awning material and bent the front of the awning like you wouldn’t believe managed to strip the awning Down snapped one of the internal supports and hand to disconnect all parts and strap them up inside the awning box until we came home ,now I need some advice on installing a warning light so I can’t be a brain dead idiot and do it again any info would be great,sorry for the long winded story love channel great stuff Thanks in advance

Wow you really did a number on yourself there, you could fit a micro switch inside the awning the same kind you have on your door so the lights come on when it’s open/out … wire it up to a buzzer so if the ignition is turned on it buzzes but when the awning is closed it won’t buzz

Fair play. Even on ladders its not easy with 2 people. One big recommendation I would make for a ladder....stick with what you have, and add a Thule Ladder Fixation kit. They work brilliantly with a telescopic ladder, but dont leave your roof accessible all the time.

Great job. We recently had ours destroyed during an unexpected heavy rain event. Keep good slope on it. Cost of replacement for us is almost $5000 Aussie dollars. We also have the Thule tent that hangs underneath. It’s perfect to keep the chill out and the dogs in. Love your vlogs.
