my Aunty and Uncle lived there, they were retired and given the option to move from their 3 bedroom council house(council obviously wanted the 3 bedroom but fair enough 3 bedroom is too much for two people),my uncle had trouble climbing the stairs anyway in their old house so exchanging was obviously what they did , it was really nice there, the gardens were immaculate,the bungalow had everything they needed almost everybody knew each other,my Uncle would, together with the neighbour grow veg in the back garden,when I would visit them I remember it was always very peaceful

I love these sort of images ! In the early 1980's my neighbourhood and then street, was being demolished.( here in Hull ) We stayed there after everyone else had moved as my dad was in a legal dispute with the council. After people had moved out, it became a ghost town, but the houses weren't boarded up at first, so me and my brother ( i was about 12/13, would explore. We never came across anyone else, and there was no arson or other damage, which made it even more strange ! After some time, the slates and floorboards were removed, just leaving houses as 'skeletons', as if a corpse had been picked clean. And all the gardens had been removed too. After the houses came down, the area looked like an atomic bomb had exploded ! There was just our house, propped up by the empty one next door. It wasn't long before the council made their final 'offer' and threatened us with eviction in 24 hours, at which point my dad gave up.

Probably sold the land to a private developer, the fencing around looks pretty new. There will be homes built that ordinary folk won't be able to afford.

@@kdri155 that is exactly what they have done, atleast that’s what I’ve been told, I’ve tried looking into it but can’t find much info other than that houses are being built there, I’m not sure wether they will be social or private. But I’d imagine they will be new build for private buyers.

Maybe a mix a I think it’s more normal now that lot of local councils request at least 10% social housing on developments on land they sell to developers sometimes more .

But peter how can people, humanity allow it to deteriorate like this,there's sons grandsons ,people round the doors could of not letting it get in to such a state,you know when I was younger you had 12 year old+ boys girls, asking neighbors hey Mr+ Mrs do you want ya garden doing,and they'd tidy it up for a couple of £pounds,, these property's there's nowt wrong with them,, its absolutely sheer east of council,government tax payers money, of argh let's knock them down,,, this would never have happened to past generations,they had more spirit

My Mum and Dad lived at number 27 for over 20 years up until both going into care in 2017...😢... It was a beautiful little safe place for them in their last years. The gardens were kept beautifully and they loved living here. I miss visiting them here, so many special memories ❤️ Sad to see it this way ...😢

Remember these. They were for the over 50s.. To be fair they were showing signs of being unfit fifteen years or so ago. Teeny kitchen, some said they were full of asbestos (which is OK until disturbed so the dust flies around) Difficult to remodel without lots of precautions.. They are on the canal bank more or less. Probably be ££s "water view" properties?

I lived in one of those bungalows and along with my sister and 36 other tenants we got kicked out 2 years ago. Andrew western was one of the councillors who agreed for them to be demolished. All bastards the lot of them 🤬

Shame it cant be revamped the council constitution was from a time they were of solid construction .I wonder why there was damp ,modern UPVC in older properties can cause this lack of cavity insulation is another.

@@nickthomas181 it was built on a flood plane. The river Mersey runs a few hundred metres behind the street. Yet they plan to build new build houses in exactly the same spot.

@KMKmedia94 Yes but have they ever flooded? If it does flood you wouldn't be granted planning permission to build new houses. May be there's adequate flood defenses in place. They should have revamped the bungalows there will always be a need and they could have converted the lofts into a dormmer to max the space.There is a cut off point in terms of expense of course but it's doubtful these would be sold in the future.A housing association would have taken these on. Council houses were revamped and put back into use by the builder Wimpy in my town of Burnley after a certain number were returned to council houses and Wimpy bought a number of them for a pound each as part of the contract and these were as derelict as these bungalows. They can be put back into use the buildings themselves are from a time of solid construction . I am wondering if these have a cavity wall maybe not from the age of construction. The damp issues would arise from a number of factors one being the lack of cavity insulation.
