The old villa I lived in while in Italy also had a cistern. On rainy nights you could hear the rainwater flowing into it. Not unlike camping near a cascading stream. What a glorious sound. I love your adventures.

The bath tub is a give away to the age of the house I put it to be from the 40.s the door you walked into was the glassed in porch that led to the kitchen/dining room. The appliances would of been against the furthest wall an they would of had a pot belly stove for heat. Not all the rooms upstairs would of been bed rooms there would of been a type of study/library/work room, which is why that cabinet was upstairs. Would not of been uncommon for water to be trucked in from a nearby source. All in all it was a cool setup

I think the "shelf" you show @ 3:00 is where a brick chimney was supported from and then went up into attic, etc. You can see where lath and plaster was removed on 45 degree braces. I am sure you have seen these, and will know what I mean.

Im just amazed on the design of these houses. It reminds me of some of the ones I found in the woods by me. It designs you do not see anymore. Great Video

Hi trainroomgary! I appreciate you featuring my channel. I've been through Detroit many times, so I know what you mean about the plethora of abandoned places there. It would be an explorers' dream if it weren't so dangerous. Thanks for commenting!

I wonder if the door laying on the old kitchen floor was the hatch door to the basement. You had the pantry shelving around one side on the wall to the entrance of the stairs. Those hatched doors you could walk on. You can see where the outlets were insalled for the washer/dryer hook ups. They were put into the wood framing instead of the wall.

It's a typical brick two story boxed house. The back portion was added on at a later date. It was rare for older homes to have a side or back inclosed porch. If they had a porch it would open. I believe that was the original kitchen and redone for a laundry area. Older homes the basement door would be off the backdoor entrance if the entrance was inside and yes the kitchen area's would be small. You had a dining room to eat in. That side door you called it would have been the original back door

It'd be amazing if a historian did these kinds of videos. Then they could tell you a lot about them just from the structure itself and how it was built.

I had a hunch with the kitchen cabinets gone, that a collector who reuses "antique" interiors took them. Then when I saw the walls stripped bear, again I thought that they must have been some type of cedar paneling that was valuable and someone took that as well. No doubt the same person/people. When I saw the front entry porch with the stained clapboard siding, I figured I guessed correctly. Doors aren't always so valuable to collectors, so they are often left behind. I guess they seem cumbersome and are often thrown into dumpsters when people reno old houses. But I've seen old doors sell for quite a lot at Antique shops. Windows too but I still see them thrown away quite often too. Anyhoo, no one was trying to restore this house, in my opinion. It was "stripped."

I know you're bent over in the basement, but how did they wash clothes in that cement box being bent over?? Did they just take water out then take it up stairs to wash the clothes?? I have never heard of this before, can someone tell me how they did it? thanks so much...

Hi Tiki! Just happen to wonder, why do you save basements for last?
@TikiTrex9 жыл бұрын
Carsten Hahn Hi Carten, it's a pattern I've established just to stay consistent. I find it is better to give the viewer a layout of the upstairs without being interrupted by a basement visit and then restart where I left off.
