I agree it needs to be renovated, but it a hell of a lot of many for the restoration and the up keep of it. The tax payers would go nuts if their hard earned cash went to a place that was not provided jobs in the future past the renovation. So unless you are a millionaire or billionaire or someone with an extra $5 million, then sadly this piece of history will go to ruin.

It is mind-boggling to me that a magnificent structure such as this has been left abandoned to wrack and ruin. There are so many amazing details in this place: the staircase; the intricate ceilings; the grand hall; the plastered frescos; absolutely everything! I cannot comprehend why someone with means does not restore this stunning building to her former glory. Five million does not seem to be an exorbitant amount of money to pay for the grandeur and the history of such a majestic lady! Thank you so very much for taking us along, and sharing the splendor.💐
@frenchtoast58436 жыл бұрын
It would take a lot of money indeed to restore such a place. It would take a very, very wealthy person to do it, perhaps several wealthy people. It would not be an easy job. Just finding the right skilled people to work on it would be a challenge. You would not want to hire just anyone to do it. Ever heard of the film called The Money Pit? It was a comedy about a couple who bought a home and tried to restore it. You cannot even be sure just looking at outside walls how much work has to be done. Usually, there is a lot of work that needs to be done that you would never suspect until you began to work on it. Places like these were built by the fabulously wealthy in ages of excess. Descendants now cannot afford to keep up such places. The costs are enormous. They are not self-supporting structures in any sense. I suspect it could easily take 10 or even 20 years or more of slow, painstaking restoration to fully restore a place like this.

We spent 7 years rehabbing a 1860's home on a city park in the heartland of the United States. We did all the work ourselves, and whenever I look at a home like this, my heart soars at the potential, and I cry when I think of all the work and money that will go into the project. People have no idea how much goes into redoing a home like this. And then there is the upkeep.... It never ends....

The "big hall" is a ball room, which would be the most luxurious room of the manor. It is where they would flaunt their money and status. The balconies are so that guests and family members ( especially under aged teens ) could watch while the adults danced. Also, the orchestra would be situated up there.

Wow! It’s absolutely gorgeous! Why are there so many of these breathtaking mansions just rotting away? I wish they could be restored as schools, a music conservatory, university, movie sets, luxury apartments, museums-something beneficial and not left to just rot away and be vandalized until they collapse. This great room is exquisitely decorated; you can almost see the people dressed in period clothes, and hear baroque music under chandeliers blazing with candles. The stories these walls could recite... I wish I had the money to fix it up and turn it into something worthwhile.

Well such a place is really expensive to maintain, not many people can afford that. Then the owners usually want far too much money for the place, which means it's hard to sell and finally a potential buyer usually can't do what he wants with it, since buildings that old are usually heritage protected sites, which means you can't do certain things with it, like changing floor plans and stuff.

After the Fall of the Hapsburg Dynasty these buildings were still in use by descendents of their heirs, but many were forced to provide these buildings during the time of the German Unification by the Nazis. Regrettably there were also many of these exquisite homes saw the Nazis demanding use of the buildings for uses such as local Wehrmacht or SS headquarters. There were obvious locations where marble statues and paintings were located, These artworks, along with the furnishings were frequently removed from the House and the Nazis placed these in safer locations to prevent their destruction. Sadly many of these great homes have been left empty for decades, but this can be restored and have hundreds of years for its use. Overall the frescos and architectural elements remain, and when you might think that the paintings were disappointing these walls and ceilings were spared the weight of the marble. Gravity with large variances in temperature and humidity could have created structural failures. Not a cheap refurbishment, and I would hold back from attempting to re-create what must have been here in the past, as the costs are far too exorbitant to all but the very wealthy, and the costs of heating, installation of insulation, and the kitchen/bathroom structures would set the buyer back at least another $5M (USD). Can you tell me where this is located, please? I could research this wonderful home and provide more accurate information. Thank you for the tour! Fröliche Weinachten!

Exactly. It is impossible to heat rooms like this. They will always be cold in cold weather and possibly even chilly in hotter weather. Then there are the grounds to consider. What about the cost of plumbing and keeping electrics functioning properly. It would be virtually impossible to retrofit a place like this with central air and heat. Just CLEANING it would be like painting the Forth Bridge. A place this large needs a staff of servants and grounds keepers to keep it functional. Places like this were being lost by the 19th century and definitely by the 20th century. Those owners who could not reinvent their estates to modern economies lost them. This is a relic, albeit a beautiful relic, of a bygone age. Once men and women had employment choices, they no longer needed to go into service. In fact, estate owners increasing found it harder and harder to get and to keep "good help." No one family can operate an estate this large on their own. As it has not been converted to a museum or some such, it is not surprising that it is empty. Read your history! If that is too much to ask, at least watch Downton Abbey for a very good historical treatment of the great homes and the families that once ran them.

The upkeep alone on this home could be close to a million a year! You would need a huge staff to upkeep the home and grounds!

Someone spared no expense on this place!! It's Stunning!! But would have liked to see more of it like the kitchen area or dining hall... If i was rich i would want to restore this place!! It should never be in ruins or left to rot..JS Makes one wonder what kind of people lived there, were they kind? What kind of life did they live? Did they have children who played in those rooms or running the halls?? Thanks for sharing a piece of history from your country ❤

What would it cost to Renovate this to it's former glory? Sad to see things like this deteoriate to dust...

Don't know, but I'd guess you have to invest the amount you bought it for again for renovation.
