FNP here, back in a post masters psych program. The abuse and disrespect we get from patients is at an all time high, and we have no resources, no support, no backup. Continue to speak up for yourself - no one else would. Much Grace to us all

I've been a NP for 7 years. I worked community health for 6 years and really started to feel that the role just wasn't for me. I took a chance and excepted a job in palliative medicine. This specialty is a perfect match for me. This job saved my career. I highly recommend you giving it a try. I've grown not only in my role but in my faith! Best of luck

As an urgent care nurse practitioner, patients behave so differently in our department than they would at their physician’s office. Pediatricians are by far very conservative when it comes to the use antibiotics. Parents know that as well. If they continue to give me a hard time, I have no problem calling the doctor on call. The moment somebody starts using profanity and calling me names, I have no tolerance for that, and I quickly asked them to leave, and if they can’t, I’d be happy to have the police escort them out.

You are way better than me. I’ve been an NP for 5 years and RN 23 years total and refuse to work in any environment such as this you describe. I became an NP in hopes that I would be able to have a better peace of mind in the last half of my career. And that’s exactly what it is. At 47 I’m finding I’m too sensitive to garbage and toxic work spaces. I would have resigned day 2. This is unhealthy.

I’m in np school and I’ve been watching your channel. I delight in the truth of your experiences. I was thinking of urgent care since I’ve worked as an er nurse for over 10 years. Hearing your experience gives me an idea what to look out for. I will try urgent care as my last clinical rotation to see if that’s a space for me. I think the population contributes to your experience. In fine neighborhoods, the disrespect is high.

I just started and FNP program (reluctantly), I know i can't be at the bedside forever but these patients now a days make you want to leave nursing all together. I changed my pace recently from medsurge (4yrs) to PICU and just started this program. I love that you explored all these different areas and give your HONEST review. Hearing these reviews makes me feel nervous altogether pursuing an MSN. Have you ever considered education? You are so great at explaining your experience and very brief explanations of procedures. Please keep doing what you do. You are certainly appreciated on this platform. Have a great day and thank you for the reviews.😊

I’m so glad nurses and nurse practitioners are not martyrs anymore. Sad to think that these new professionals don’t stick long to jobs that they don’t like, but I am also very happy for them because they’re not going to be psychologically and emotionally damaged, unlike those who are unhappy and bitchy in their jobs. That’s the beauty of the current fluidity in jobs. Congratulations to all gutsy people there. Never wait until you’re burned out.

I'm in NP school now. and I love this. I worked at an Urgent Care as an MA while in nursing school, and this is SO. REAL. The things she talks about sound so comical that these things cannot be true... it is so true. Sometimes the NPs I use to work with were the only providers on staff seeing 100+ patients during flu season. It's alot!

thanks for your honesty. we work too hard and are often unappreciated then add unhappiness in the workspace on top of that. it boggles my mind how people bring drama and negativity to people when they need help. I am currently in an RN program and I know for damn sure, I am NOT an inpatient nurse. I love helping people that want help and need an advocate, not nasty people on top of short staff, etc. I work in a specialty clinic and 9-5 Monday through Friday and work does not come home with me. I look forward to the rest of your journey, stay safe!

Thanks for your honesty, much appreciated. Had an 89 y/o female patient being checked in for, "my stomach and my leg hurt really bad." Sent them to the ED ASAP. I might get an earful for this, but why waste precious time "seeing" this patient. That stomach hurting "really bad" could be an aneurysm, and who's got time to wait for an imminent DVT in the urgent care setting?
