I always loved the idea that Sauron, even at a mere 1/100th of his strength, is still intimidating enough that even the baddest of the bad mofos have no desire to challenge him and that all of the Dark Lord's enemies are that not out of their own choosing but because he was planning to genocidally wipe them from the face of Middle Earth from the very beginning .

@@MrCheesyBaconBits To be fair, Sauron is pretty much a Demi-God of sorts, and as long as the One Ring exists, then he cannot truly "die". Even with the One Ring destroyed, Sauron still may not be "dead", just stuck in such a severely weakened state that he can no longer take physical form or otherwise directly interfere with affairs on Middle-Earth. As powerful as they are, even a dragon like Urgost wouldn't really be a match for something comparable to a Demi-God.

Dragons are vain, so if you stroke their egos, they are likely to appreciate it enough to potentially reward you for it with more than just letting you live. It could spare you from having to fight what would otherwise be a very dangerous and deadly enemy. This is literally the case in the Drizzt novels when Drizzt is forced to deal with the Red Dragon Hephaestus. Drizzt manages to get himself and the defenseless Weeping Friars to safety by both stroking Hephaestus' ego and by successfully bluffing him (Hephaestus is stated to not be as smart as other Red Dragons, even to the point that he could be considered absent-minded, which helped Drizzt here....had it been another Red Dragon instead, Drizzt likely wouldn't have been so lucky.)

@@click8708 Yeah, dragons can be very interesting when written and portrayed properly. And when done well, they can carry an entire plot all by themselves. Just look at Grigori in Dragon's Dogma, he's easily one of the absolute best dragons in video game history (and David Lodge's voice fits him perfectly), even though he only appears in person a total of three times, those times when he actually *does* appear have all the more impact for it. He has some amazing lines as well. Such as: *"The rantings of an up-jumped zealot make for tedious listening."* or *"If you would face me, seek me out, and I shall allow it. But heed the zealot's lesson well, Arisen. When the weak court death, they find it."*

You should probably do some research before you comment stuff like this . One there were Cold Drakes in the world still. 2 Smaug was the last known famous Fire Drake known to people . Not to middle earth . They all went in hiding in the Grey Mountains and the Withered Heath in the North and North West . Some parts of Forodwaith as well I beilieve . There are still lesser Fire Drakes out there and who knows , dragons like Urgost still could've been in hiding somewhere abandoned or somewhere deep in the world . Same goes for the Balrog Durins Bane . He wasn't stated as the last of the Balrogs . He was just one of the ones that was found . You need to read more than just the hobbit to find more info about stuff . Tolkiens writings aren't any normal fantasy you see on tv or other small books . Some of them are big like Harry Potter or Narnia . But they also aren't in as much detailed in history as JRR Tolkien had . Takes a lot to see the full history of what he and his son Christopher Tolkien did .
