@NJT4111 Well taking that into consideration, that means the URHS would be likely to leave that GG1 alone to rot until every other car in their possession has been restored. They should probably give it some other preservation society or museum to restore, although I'm not sure who would be up for such a unique job.

@PossessedDonutz I had fun just watching the Transit engines. Personally I'm not fond of the GG1, so it not getting restored isn't a big loss. Some of the E and F units I would like to see run again.

@trainzrok I don't think it is, but if it is, I would assume to power the AC on the locos
@MichaelSullivanPhoto198514 жыл бұрын
@trainzrok Because when these engines where rebuilt, the AC units where tied into the HEP. Dont ask why.

@murjax What museum? All museums in NJ are outside, which explains why most of their non-operational equipment falls apart. And sitting in a museum is worthless. Getting something back on the road is the goal of the URHS more times than none
@murjax14 жыл бұрын
@NJT4111 Just because it's outside shouldn't mean it falls apart. Danbury has this Pennsy postal car that when they brought back from hell. It's not operational but they let people tour the car and I'll tell you, they've taken such good care of that car that it looks brand new. Now a good portion of this equipment probably can be put back on the road, but for items like that GG1, a museum where people can climb inside to tour the cab and pose for pictures next to is probably where it should go.

Awesome video! I think the URHS should let the Cape May Seashore Lines lease theese because they would fix them up nice.

@NJT4111 I had a question about that...How much for the full restoration of the fleet and is it going to offer a "scenic" package such has a ride into the country from Monclair to the Pennsylvania area?
@murjax14 жыл бұрын
@PossessedDonutz You don't need to get it running. If you can restore the exterior and the cab you can put it on display in a railroad museum.

Great catch...
@NJT411114 жыл бұрын
@murjax Ok fine, but that means they have the money to eep up work on the car if they need too. With the URHS, it's slow moving, mainly because of money issues, therefore keeping it outside would be exactly what they are doing now anyway

Great Video! I would love to see those E Units under their own power.
@NJT411114 жыл бұрын
@cbehr91 Big Dead. I don't think it's ever going to get fixed up, to the point of running under it's own power. And if it does, amtrak wouldn't allow it to travel faster then restricting speed.

@NJT4111 oh, didn't think they needed HEP for ac.

Did this equipment come up from lebanon NJ I think I saw it a few years ago surrounding the station on sidings and if it did I saw a different lash up of units pulling it to raritan yard they were an gp40fh-2 and a gp40ph-2

So is that where they're gonna stay for a while or are they finally getting a long awaited restoration?

I realize that my remarks are somewhat late, but watching that show and those dilapidated pieces of equipment that once were great to look at, was really sad. It was disgraceful. My suggestion to any group that wants to restore old equipment make sure that they have people that really are willing to do some hard work. Restoring a locomotive isn't easy, and there is a lot more to it then a great paint job, but when you hear the prime movers coming to life, well you feel like you have really helped to preserve a piece (large in many cases) of history. By the way, just for the record, I saw 4877 when she was totally repainted into PRR colors with pinstripes, in addition to having ridden on an excursion behind the E units after they had been repainted in the Erie scheme. What I'm saying is this, make sure you'll have volunteers, not to mention a supplier for components.
