I have. Not with your magnet but with a magnet similar to the one used by Geller. Also, look how close his hand comes to the compass. In fact, I am sure he uses 2 magnets. One attached to his thumb and another, much larger, in his belt. It is a technique used by magicians to misdirect you from the method. What power, do you suppose, moved the compass?

I'm pretty sure that a rare earth magnet (like the ones sold at Radioshack), though much smaller than a magnetic screwdriver, is much stronger. Also, although a big compass would take more force to move, it would contain a bigger, stronger magnet, thus providing more force.

@OrthodoxDarwinist - OOPS! Wrong conclusion. If you trust this video it was posted by an Israeli. And it was not for your money. It was for broadening people's minds. The fact that there is a fraud that is a Darwinist doesn't make all Darwinists frauds. Generalities are dangerous.
@cosmicjazzer16 жыл бұрын
He did perform many scientific tests in the 70s and delivered the goods in terms of mind reading. The spoon bending results were considered less watertight though he did bend a key provided by a professor which never left the prof's hand. thereby precluding 'ratcheting' a pre-bent key - the usual 'explanatuion' given by conjurors.
@NQGHOSTFAKER3 жыл бұрын
Not actually true. He CLAIMS he proved his BS in controlled conditions. In what universe is doing the same BS tricks he does "live", a "scientific test". They have REAL tests that would easily demonstrate psychokinesis. Guess what: NOBODY has ever had any success whatsoever

@MMAProfessor So what if you can't replicate Randi's method, because that's what you talk about, right? Is it Randi's theory were gonna try now? What you're saying is that if I can't make it work like Randi, it would automatically mean that Geller is real? I just don't follow your logic! Why do you have a hang-up on Randi's method? He clearly says, on several occasions, that even if it isn't necessarily that specific method, it's way more logical that he's using another trick than being psychic!
@markiboy198114 жыл бұрын
I can understand a magnet in his belt moving the compass but surely a thumb magnet would not be strong enough? I'm no expert but usually you have to get a magnet extremely clost to an object to get any reaction unless it is very large. I suppose a number of small magnes could be sewn in to his trousers and no one would notice. I've never seen a magician do this trick though. Has anyone else?

@MMAProfessor Quote: Then in November of 2007, in an interview with Magische Welt (Magic World) he said, clearly and plainly: "I’ll no longer say that I have supernatural powers. I am an entertainer. I want to do a good show. My entire character has changed." - Geller
@Veeno0014 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor Oh yeah, another thing, I reminded myself by saying it's a big-ass compass: You forgot that also the same magnet will affect larger magnet from greater distance than it will a smaller magnet. In other words, the size of the compass's magnet/needle is equally important as the size of the magnet you use to turn it. Now get a compass as big as the one Uri turned and see how magnets affect *that* one. No, this is not a made-up theory, magnets do work that way.
@Veeno0014 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor His hand is too close? How about in this video: watch?v=mSko0byaDiI In that one his hands are further away from the compass than Uri Geller's.
@Veeno0014 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor Well I don't have a big-ass compass like that, do I? I also have better things to do. Why don't you or Uri demonstrate how to turn a compass with your mind without getting neither your hand (as Uri did in the first video) nor your head (as Uri did in the second video) nor any part of your body so close to it? And you can't really tell how far Uri's hand is from the compass when it turns because it's shot from above.

'In November 2000, Geller sued video game company Nintendo for £60 million (the equivalent of US $100 million) over the Pokémon character "Yungerer," localized in English as "Kadabra", which he claimed was an unauthorised appropriation of his identity.[77][78] The Pokémon in question has psychic abilities and carries bent spoons.'
@sausageslaps16 жыл бұрын
well lets take this in perspective, my crane can lift a 6000 lb car with the magnet, thats the load limit. given the weight it can lift, im pretty sure it would seriousley affect something of a much smaller size. i can pick up something 1000 lbs from 6 feet away. the magnet on my crane is an electro magnet, so its not terribly powerful, but its 4 feet across. the rpm of the cranes engine also has an effect on its power

It never ceases to amaze me how much supposed psychics gesticulate. Aren't they supposed to have powers of the MIND?
@dowling198114 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor Wasting your time? Lol. That's a bit rich when I can see that you have been talking about Uri Geller for over a year. Are you writing a dissertation on him?
@Veeno0014 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor I haven't created anything, it's the only reasonable explanation. You on the other hand have created the belief that Uri Geller indeed is capable of turning the compass with his mind or whatever it is that he claims, or more precisely Uri Geller created it and you embraced it. Also, Randi clearly demonstrates how to turn the compass without psychic powers and you acknowledge that his hands in that second video are as close to the compass as Uri's so I don't see what's the problem.
@rahbirt14 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor What I think you are trying to show in the video is that your way of moving the magnet doesn't affect the compass the same way Uri did. I hope you don't think it proves that Uri is psychic! But that is not what you claim either, is it? Your video does not, in any way, prove that the magnet theory is false. It only proves that you are not performing it correctly, or that Uri used other methods which you and may other haven't figured out. Do you agree?

Again... He is not just an entertainer...if you look in any of his 12 bestselling books he writes about how he met aliens and how they gave him supernatural powers... he has said in numerous occasions that he will rescue Ariel Sharon from his comma, he tells people how they can cure themselves and ... I believe that man can only solve its problems when dealing with truth. Geller masks the truth for many people.
@DelennCastemate17 жыл бұрын
The difference is that the legitimate illusionists aren't claiming to have any "psychic powers" or other bushwa. In fact, they're making it perfectly clear that it's illusion, that it's an act, that there's nothing mystical going on. Uri does, and that's what makes him a fraud instead of an entertainer like the others.
@rahbirt14 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor So even after watching all these video clips where you actually see him being busted, reading about Geller being a fraud, you still say he is for real? Answer this please, you have been kinda avoiding the question... Do you still think Geller is "for real" with actual supernatural powers?? Yes or no. Please don't reply "I don't have to answer that..." blah blah...
@Veeno0014 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor Here is the formula: en . wikipedia . org / wiki / Magnetic_moment#Forces_between_two_magnetic_dipoles (Remove the spaces.) Also, as a matter of fact, Randi has uploaded a video in which he not only tries, but succeeds, so your fact is not a fact but a product of your imagination. You repeatedly claim that no sceptic has ever done it and blah blah, yet he has done it more than once, I've seen two videos in which he does it here on KZbin. This discussion is pointless.

@MMAProfessor First of all, you don't replicate a theory, you replicate a method. Second, are you seriously telling me that because you can't repeat Geller's trick with the magnet like Randi could, Geller therefore is a psychic? My problem? My problem is that I can't see where in this pathetic trick anyone would be led to believe that there's supernatural powers involved? My problem is that Geller's tricks are really basic beginner's tricks. Using magnets to move a compass and pre-bending keys
@OriMaGic-OMG17 жыл бұрын
It will only make more of them... F*** all the people who use magic in order to cheat and decieve people, abuse the art of magic, and live dishonestly. Magic is not in the deception, it is in bringing wonder and love and laughter into life.

Not attacking you at all. Au contrair, Just opening your eyes... test some PK magnets (you can order them from magic shops). Don't need a masters degree to look with my own eyes. As I said in the interview (a part that was cut out), I am believe science cannot explain certain phenomena, but doing tricks and calling them "supernatural" is wrong.
@rahbirt14 жыл бұрын
Furthermore... I am very curious why people believe things are supernatural just because you can't understand how it's done. Just because Geller makes the spoon bend, and you can't figure out how, doesn't make it supernatural, of course. Can't people just say - "Hey, well done. You bent the spoon and I couldn't figure out how. Good for you!" But no, people go: "Oh, I can't see what's going on... uhm... it's gotta be psychic!

@MMAProfessor Oh I have no doubt in my mind he's a very nice guy. After all, he's an entertainer and enjoys being in the spotlight. In what way did you prove Randi and others wrong? It's like saying Copperfield has supernatural powers just because I fruitlessly try to figure out and copy his tricks. Your arguments are flawed.
@Veeno0014 жыл бұрын
@MMAProfessor Wait, you are saying that a magnet of the size like the one Uri Geller puts on his thumb can't affect a compass from that distance, and yet James Randi has affected the compass with a ten times smaller magnet taped to his palm at the same distance from a compass? Pfft.

Another pointer to consider, now that he is shaking hands with NBC, is that he has published 16 bestselling books, in which he tells how he met aliens, how they gave him supernatural power and how people can cure themselves and heal their illnesses by following his supernatural bullshit. Are these the values NBC wishes to give the next generation? Those who bullshit best are the winners...

@MMAProfessor Off topic? What are you talking about? The video is all about Geller being a fraud and a not very good illusionist. @MMAProfessor What the hell are you talking about?? Of course it's exactly the point! You claim he's got supernatural powers just because Urine says so (or maybe because you just can't figure out the trick). The burden of proof lies with the one who claims he has supernatural powers. He has (of course) not proven that. In stead he has been exposed many times. It is not up to me, or other sane people to tell exactly how he does his tricks. Others have done that:)

I believe that there must be a magnetic charge in some people's hearts. I am a forester of 30 years, and when I shoot a compass line, it is always skewed by slightly more than one degree to the left. As I point to the north, the compass needle always is pulled slightly west, and when I point to the south with a compass line, it is slightly pulled to the east. Also, cheap watches with batteries do not work on me. I must use a good quality watch such as a genuine swiss army watch. My son is even worse, cheap battery watches stop working on him in a very short period of time.
