Super cool. That was footage of Heep during a soundcheck/rehearsal. So they played Devil's Daughter live that tour. Box is only one still alive.

The full story is that that Heep left Gary Thain behind in Dallas after his on-the-job accident and continued on their tour. Gary came up through the ranks from New Zealand and his contributions and sacrifices have been unappreciated and undervalued since the day he was fired.

They keep repeating the "electrical shock" story to this day. I was there. I saw it. There was no jolt. His playing became incoherent for a few seconds before he passed out.

So was it because of a bad performance that they fired him?

They fired him because he was a junkie, found dead in a tub about a year later.

@James Lanclos - I saw a post-Pistols Johnny Rotten do it on American Bandstand. Dick Clark was none too pleased that Rotten messed up his lip-sync and the instrumental.

"During his last tour in the United States with Uriah Heep, Thain suffered an electric shock at the Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas on 15 September 1974, and was seriously injured.[2] Due to his drug addiction he was not able to perform properly, and was fired by the band in early 1975 and replaced by former King Crimson bassist/vocalist, John Wetton. Thain died of respiratory failure due to a heroin overdose, on 8 December 1975, aged 27,[3] at his flat in Norwood Green in London." John Wetton wasn't with them very long - he formed one of my favorite bands ever: U.K. then of course Asia...and i got to see them in Dallas on their first tour with Steve Howe bouncing around the stage like an elf

One would think Byron would have been kinder to Gary Thain, other than simply referring to him as their bass player. Thain had a terrible heroin problem, and the bad shock on stage was probably a more palatable excuse to drop him for John Wetton. A year later and Byron himself was dropped for alcoholism and not being able to turn off the "star" persona when not on stage. Byron had a great voice and was a fantastic performer, but was self destructive and damaging the band. Of course, the band was never the same without him. So many good bands went through similar problems and always will.

Moody Coliseum rivaled Dallas Memorial Auditorium as a concert venue in the '60s and '70s. Peter, Paul & Mary were slated to play Moody on November 23, 1963, but not certain if the show went on, being advertised in that day's Dallas Morning News but nothing in there whether it was cancelled.

@@rogerbelger2014 No reason to be confused. Acording the following timeline: Gary Thain left Uriah Heep at the turn of the year 1974/ 1975 after accident in Dallas in September 1974. This concert we talk about took place one year later in October 1975 with John Wetton on bass. A repetition of the concert on September, 15th 1974 when the accident took place. But Gary Thain was still alive at this time but no more member of Heep. He sadly died two month later in December 1975...

It happened quite often in the ‘70s and especially the late ‘60s. Grounding at venues back then wasn’t really equipped for these types of shows. I’ve been shocked several times in my career but nothing like the Ace Frehley or Gary Thain incidents.
