To a degree, they have been reinstituted as forerunners in combining progressive rock and the heavy rock of that era. Imo "Why" is one of their best songs, especially the edited version that was a b- side of "Gypsy" single if my memory serves me. It contains great guitar playing from Mick Box.

@@notgivennotgiven7776 When I saw Deep purple 1972 ELF was on the tour with them and Fleetwood Mac.No one knew at the time that Dio would be in a band called Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore a few years later. Crazy concert that was. Jon Lord's Hammond broke down and if I remember correctly they played the song Paint it Black.to fill in for Lord till the roadies wheeled in a replacement. The concert was held in Hershey Pa. Nov. 10 th. 1972.

Uriah Heep great band but only reached their full potential with their later masterpieces "Wizards & Demons & Magician's Birthday LPs. Each packed full with imaginative thematic storytelling mythic lyrical & sonic imagery. Once this singer David Byron left they lost a key element. But still one of my favorites and last great memorable creative Hardrock bands of that wonderful pre-Metal era. After which straight Rock simply became too commercially repetitive' immature and predictable. I simply grew out of the genre. Prog was all that was still worth considering before Metal again sucked the thunder from it as well.

As a teenager back in the mid 1970s, we used to listen to lots of different types of rock music. One of my favorite live albums was "Uriah Heep Live." IMHO, one of the best 70s live records. This song is on it along with "Sunrise," "Easy Livin'," "Sweet Lorraine" and "Gypsy." We used to puff up and relax to lots of rock music. Very proggy. A later song of theirs I live is "Stealin'." A toe tapping tune! ✌❤
