Totally agree, after Deep Purple and Jon Lord, no one rocked the organ as hard as Ken Hensley. Great freaking band, I saw them in 1973 with a young ZZ Top opening. Both bands were like bombs going off as soon as they hit the stage. Those were the days! All for $5.00, LOL!

For those of us old enough to remember, and who have enough brain cells left to be able to remember, Uriah Heep was a huge part of the big four in late sixties/early seventies; Zeppelin, Purple, Sabbath and Heep.

Their Demons & Wizards from 1972 are a phenomenal masterpiece. Songs like The Wizard, Traveller In Time and Circle Of Hands. David Byron had a phenomenal voice. The lineup Byron, Ken Hensley keys, Mick Box guitar, Gary Thain bass and Lee Kerslake drums was something else. Mick Box are unfortunately the only one alive. Still touring and preparing for the final Tour. He is 77.

David Byron/ lead vocals, Mick Box/ guitar, backing vocals, Ken Hensley/ keyboards, slide guitar and backing vocals, Gary Thain/ bass, Lee Kerslake/ drums and backing vocals. They did a total of 5 albums together. Demons and Wizards/ The Magicians Birthday/ Uriah Heep Live and Sweet Freedom, which the track Stealin' is off of. And last but not least Wonderworld. 🙂

The organ you like so well in this song and many others is the Hammond B series organ. It's almost always played through a Leslie amplifier that has a variable control spinning speaker inside. It gives them a unique sound. Gregg Allman played that setup.

So many bands so little time… you can see the dilemma a young man in the 70s had. An embarrassment of riches when it came to music. Hate to live in the past, but musically I think we peaked about 50 years ago so it’s nice to revisit the bands and songs that may have been lost in the shuffle back then. And of course it’s fun to listen with a couple of my favorite NorCal reviewers down the hill in Sactown

Hard Rock history talks about the "big three" at the end of the sixties/early seventies. But I always talk of the "big four" when it comes to hard rock of that period. The former being Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. The fourth band is Uriah Heep. Especially their first five albums. This song is from their sixth studio album, "Sweet Freedom", released in 1973.

@@vicprovost2561 Nah. It is of course all about personal preferences, but I'd put U.F.O. far above B.O.C., and maybe even Scorpions or Budgie. For me, Blue Oyster Cult is one of those American overrated bands. Good songs, sure, but competition for the "Big Four" or even U.F.O. or Scorpions? Then there's later bands like Judas Priest and/or Iron Maiden, too. Nope. Sorry to disappoint you. I like a couple of songs by Cult, but to me, they too often sound like a poor man's Hawkwind.

@@JimmyRJump Actially, everything I already said still goes for me BUT I should have invlided Michael Schenker and the 3 great bands he was a part of, the Scorpions, UFO and MSG. Easily as good as anyone I listed but Zeppelin and Sabbath, as good for me as Blackmore, Schenker was beyond great. As was Phil Mogg, who was UFO, the only original member there for their 50 years together, main vocalist and songwriter. Truly under recognized. I saw UFO 5 times, the Scorpions 6 and MSG once, every show a killer, I saw Schenker 3 times in UFO in 77/78, no better hard rock shows for me. Also saw Paul Chapman and Vinnie Moore play lead with UFO, they were excellent as well. Rock On!

"Rainbow Demon" and "The Wizard" a couple tracks off the international released 'Demons and Wizards' album back in 1972 by 'Uriah Heep' are smokin' hot and worth checking out. The late and original lead vocalist David Byron possessed a powerful and operatic voice. Ian Gillan the lead vocalist of another British rock group 'Deep Purple' has a similar powerful voice. 'Uriah Heep 'and 'Deep Purple' were both popular in the early 1970's that rocked the world with their recordings reaching plenty of airplay of the F.M. dial back in the day. 🔍💫🎤🎸🎹🥁🔊⚡🔥☮🎧
