RIP Ken Hensley. No song could put it better now. Tears for all Heep fans
@jgowin663 жыл бұрын
Of the Heep five on stage in this show, only Mick Box survives. It's incredibly sad to think about when you consider the amazing talent that was in THIS Heep line-up. Thain, (IMHO) one of the best bassists EVER, never made it past the mid-1970's. Byron, great voice and inimitable stage presence, died 10 years later, in '85. And we lost Kerslake and Hensley last year (one of the most fucked-up years of all time). We still have their music, for which I am eternally grateful. Man, these guys could ROCK!

Slide playing is usually the one area that Americans have an edge: Duane Allman, Billy Gibbons, Joe Walsh. Who comes closest to that on the British scene? Well--surprisingly, that Uriah Heep organist/songwriter, Ken Hensley moonlighting as a blues player, and also I would say Nazareth's Manny Charlton is pretty good on the slide

Mick Box's guitar had such a distinctive sound! His playing always stood out because of that sound. David Byron had the voice that stood out because of what he could do with it. Talented. This was Uriah Heep's BEST lineup ever. When Gary Thain died, it hit me hard. When David Byron was fired, that was the end of Uriah Heep, as far as I was concerned. He was like Ozzy, he had the voice for the type of music Uriah Heep played. RIP-DAVID AND GARY. In

Armageddon (with the late Kieth Relf) might be another band that flew under your radar. Only 1 album release that I know of. Early Alice Cooper, King Crimson, Wishbone Ash, etc. If You missed Uriah Heep, perhaps you missed Yes also. The late 60s. San Fran/LA psychedelic scene is pretty incredible too. Quicksilver Messenger Service, Love, Spirit, etc. Bloodrock from Texas.....Vanilla Fugde (give their 20 plus minute long "The.Break Song" a listen).....Frijid Pink.....Dust....Fever Tree...... The Litter (check out "Feeling" from the Emerge album). Don't forget "Nuclear Apathy" and "Safety in Numbers" from Crack the Sky from the Stuebenville, Ohio area. Also Glass Harp featuring incredible musicians like Phil Keaggy (sp?). The live side of Mountain's "Flowers of Evil" is a great jam. And if you're not already familiar with them, please listen to The Pretty Things albums S.F. Sorrow and Parachute.

Looks like they were all having a good time in the video. I saw them shortly after the Uriah Heep Live album was released and watched the gig at Alexandra Palace in North London (supported by the Heavy Metal Kids from memory who were also great) and they were fab. A few of the band have gone now (Lee Kerslake recently) along with Gary Holton of the Heavy Metal Kids years ago. The UH live album still sounds fantastic, even today nearly 50 years later and the sound quality was great as well.

This song is one of the most bad ass aggressive ballsy masculine songs I have ever heard. Listen to Ken Hensley play out of those Marshall amps that absolutely roar and growl. Totally great stuff. Gary Thain on bass. Incredible. Dave Byron singing those awesome lyrics. Geez. Rock n roll , gentlemen. Read the lyrics when you can. Talk about a hurtful male love song. Geez. Masculine as heck. But painful. Props to Dave Byron "so I have to forget you but I'm not sure if I can." Name me better lyric than that.

It's always a little disappointing when someone posts a video of a live performance using the soundtrack to the studio album. There is no audience noise and the musicians hands/movements do not match the soundtrack, (which I've heard MANY times before on the album).
