I was a Tank Commander on an M1A1 Abrams at Ft. Stewart, GA '99-'00, and named my tank Abominog, hardly anyone knew where it came from, I felt old at 33 then lol...

Bob Daisley was fired by Ozzy, I remember an interview where Uriah Heep was saying "Thank you, thank you Ozzy for firing him so we could have him for our band." I love the way he plays bass and think it added a lot to this song and the album.

Both Daisley and Kerslake was fired by Ozzy after two albums. Kerslake had been in Heep before. Daisley left Heep after two albums and played on all Gary Moore albums from 1983- 1989, but he also went back to Ozzy, and played on evry album until 1991.

As a prog-metal keyboardist back in the day, This album represented an amazing synthesis of melodic, yet really hard, rock that preceded some of the goth, like Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Evanescence and Scandinavian dark metal like Dimmu Borgir...Abominog will always hold a special place in my heart and John Sinclair was AMAZING, both studio-wise and live...I saw Heep many times and, though Ken Hensley will be remembered by the public, Sinclair will be remembered by the musicians!

Love this song, and the album in general. It had that cool cover, too. This was one of the first videos that I ever saw on MTV. My parents refused to get cable, so one night I stayed at a friends house, who had cable. I stayed up watching MTV all night. I couldn't sleep. I just watched video after video. I think I saw this one a few time that night.

One of the best examples of a great band reinventing themselves in a commercial sense without totally selling out. Yes...this is FM radio AOR to the nines, but it's the way we all really want AOR to sound. Only a band of this talent could pull this off. Cheesy early-80s video (way forgiveable) and one of the absolute best AOR-Hard Rock albums EVER.

Abominog was the best album of Uriah heep in the eighties, it is also one of the best albums of the band in their long career, the style of the album was more aggressive than the stuff before it or after it, peter goalby was the perfect vocalist for that style, such a shame they did together only 3 albums
@ronson232
@ronson232 6 жыл бұрын
While the 1980's production values sound a little cheesy to modern ears, and the video is kinda silly too, at the time this came out this was both the unlikeliest and the most incredible comeback of all times. No band has ever been so absolutely dead and kaput as Uriah Heep was in 1981 and then produce such a convincing comeback album. They won a whole new generation of fans. Nearly 50 years into a career that nobody expected to last more than a couple of albums, the band certainly deserves some respect.

I covered my chemistry 'o'level book with the Abominog advert from Sounds, out of 1200 kids in the school there was only a couple of us listening to bands such as this, the music still sounds brilliant today and one of Heep's best albums, a hidden classic! This album made me switch from rock fan to rock writer! Being a keyboard player, hearing John Sinclair's mastery made me realize there was a place for sophisticated synths in hard rock. Then I heard Gregg Giuffria (who pioneered that with Angel in the 70's) and Jens Johansson (Yngwie), and my destiny was cast!

During "Black Diamond", Ace would solo then fall on his knees then do double stops and hammer ons. There is nothing like Nightflight on TV today on a Saturday night. Kids today misses out.
