Uriah Heep

Uriah Heep

Күн бұрын

"The Wizard" is a single from rock band Uriah Heep's 1972 album Demons & Wizards and was the first single to be lifted from the album.
It was composed by Mark Clarke and Ken Hensley.
It is a gentle, semi-acoustic ballad whose lyrics deal with a man wandering until he meets "the Wizard of a thousand kings", a possible reference to the druid Merlin, to Gandalf, to an angel or even God.

My favorite song from Uriah Heep as well! Can’t believe 4 of them are gone! David was so young & troubled. Ken - masterful musician. Glad to have had the best bands with the best music in the 70’s.

@@brilliant7377 Good morning, and 💙 back from the 🇺🇲 to 🇧🇻. Played the source album ("Ds. & Ws.") one summer on an 8-track tape every time I got in the car as a 12-y.o. (?)--can't be sure which summer and year ('73?),--as It's been almost 50 yrs! My introduction to Mick's distinctive, electric-guitar-strumming sound (reference "The Wizard" & "Easy Livin' ") and the Heep, which came a year or two later (?) to the local comm. college. Too young and broke and afraid to ask Mom to go see them, so I had to wait--patiently--nearly another 45 yrs. to see them in Santa Cruz, CA, then missed over half the show (The Wizard, included?) because of a ticket misunderstanding with the box office. Good night from San Jose, CA, Norwegian friend.

I'm a Colosseum fan, and I found this video because Mark Clarke co-wrote it. He only briefly played bass with U.H., but also played bass on Ken Hensley's solo albums. Even without being a Uriah Heep specialist, I remember very well what a big hit they were here in Germany at the time. Nice song, thanks for uploading it!

"The Wizard" He was the wizard of a thousand kings And I chanced to meet him one night wandering He told me tales and he drank my wine Me and my magic man kind of feeling fine He had a cloak of gold And eyes of fire And as he spoke I felt a deep desire To free the world of its fear and pain And help the people to feel free again Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts 'Cause then I know we'd find we're not so far apart Everybody's got to be happy Everyone should sing For we know the joy of life The peace that love can bring So spoke the wizard in his mountain home The vision of his wisdom means we'll never be alone And I will dream of my magic night And the million silver stars that guide me with their light.

***** Gary was not just "Another" guy. When you have a lot of money and there's nothing to do but tour, record in the studio and promo photos, etc... There's not much free time. Unfortunately, Gary chose heroin. I've in that situation for many years now. When I was 25, I had uncashed pay checks and money coming out of my ears. People offered me drugs, I just said :No thanks, I'm cool". The temptation was over whelming me hard. If I was in Gary's situation, I may have done the same. But, he's not just another guy.

Well do I remember my mind being blown as a freshman at CSU in the fall of '73 as the sounds of Uriah Heep, Traffic, Lou Reed, ZZ Top, rang through the halls of my dorm. Opening my whitebread, middle class raised brain to something beyond the Beach Boys. Throw in some pot, some girls and some windowpane, not necessarily in that order, and my transformation was complete.
