Uric Acid and Kidney Diseases

Hyperurecemia had several effects on joints and kidneys. It can cause stones and kidney disease and Uric acid level can go up in patients with CKD.
CKD can lead to Gout and Gout can cause CKD
Living with both is difficult sometimes
Prevention is key. Eat diet low in purines and avoid certain meds and alcohol. Do the following :
Diet. Eat healthy. Low protein diet. No alcohol. Dash diet. Excercise , more water. Avoid diuretics
When to Treat !
No need to treat a symptomatic increase in Uric acid unless stones or CKD or more than 1 gouty attacke per year or tophi formation or arthopathy because of gout and
You treat with allopurinol or febuxostat etc
Moreover ,
Highly Uric acid is linked with
Arthritis ( no bone pains ) severe pain in one joint usually.
It causes Stones .... Urate stones are well known.
Can cause CKD.... higher UA level can cause NEW and progressive CKD. Would drugs to lower Uric acid cause slow in CKD progression is controversial. Hyperurecemia is also associated with
HTN
Fatty liver
New Onset Diabetes
And heart disease.
Prevention is key. Early treatment by right doctor!!

Dear Dr Cheema your tutorial is so useful and full of information . I live in HK and doing Post Doc. My eGFR (CKD-EPI) is 86.1 . I improved it from 77.55 by strict diet plan and medicine. Similarly my creatinine level is 95 reduced from 104. I want to decrease my creatinine level and want to improve more eGFR kindly guide me in this regard.

Sorry to say most doctors prescribe gouric and zyloric etc without establishing uric acid is being produced in high quantity in body... I had pain in ankle and had 7.4 uric acide and doc gave me gouric straightaway... it worked though... after few months again I faced knee pain and uric acid was again 7.4 and another doc gave zyloric 300 for 15 days with vitamin d and calcium tablets.. I have 6mm stone in left kidney also... Can you please help what to do further.. thanks
