Mines still young and most of the time he’s pretty chill, sometimes I’ll scoop him up or pet him no problem but sometimes he’s like NO and scuttles away and I’m just like “*sigh* maybe later”

I've had my uromastyx since he was a baby and he is now 22 years old. He hated being held and pooped every time I picked him up. Now I just hang out next to his cage and I keep a consistent routine. He doesn't poop in his tank anymore, he poops into the toilet while I hold him over it! He loves belly rubs, chin rubs and with time has grown to tolerate me. A leash is a must when you have them out and aren't paying 100% attention, thet are the best escape artists in the world and also he has never learned his lesson about walking off of counters, my shoulder etc. I love him and he tolerates me. Great pets, not aggressive biters but will give a tail whip here and there!

I had to tell you- I cannot see a uro now, without hearing that voice of Raptor! I also read a comment somewhere that said the person was reminded of Earnest Borgnine, by every uro he saw! 😂Hilarious!

I hit the jackpot with Kermit my ornate male juvenile (we think). He was unfortunately wild caught and when I saw his miserable set up & condition in the pet store (after searching for months through breeders to no avail because it was Covid), I crumbled and had to buy/rescue him from a too small enclosure, improper diet, not enough UVB and a very large very aggressive female roommate who terrorized and attacked him. Having survived this Kermit was deeply appreciative of everything. He was instantly thrilled with me as I was not a threat to him compared to his roommate. It took him quite a while to eat properly and he’s still a fusspot but he’s a gourmet 🤷♀️. He is deeply appreciative of his multi level enclosure , multi hide with all of the space and so many walls & perches to climb on because in the pet store all he would do was burrow all day for fear of being bitten. He loves cheek rubs and cuddles and eats treats out of my hand. He tolerates children holding him and patting him. He is a bit of an escape artist and any time I open the cage he will generally run up and try to jump onto my hand for pats or alternately if someone does not close it properly he will go out on an adventure. I did learn the hard way not to take him outside. It was very hot and very sunny and he was fine when he was resting on my warm leg but as soon as I put him on the grass thinking he would be so appreciative (being wild caught to experience the outdoors again) he panicked in sheer horror and ran like greased lightning back to the house where I found him cowering by the doorstep. Needless to say he was extremely happy to be put back in his enclosure. Great video ❤️ Keep them coming!

my uro hates me and it makes me very sad and deppressed when he runs away from me, especially since I've been very patient and have been taking small baby steps for months. It is really hard to accept that he will probably never let me hold him, I'm still going to try even though he still will never like me. Anyway great video! keep up the good work!

Keep trying! Your uro will become used to you eventually! What helps is to be gentle when you approach. Try spending time in the same room as the enclosure while he's active and about for the day, he'll start associating your presence with white noise and get used to you being around. You can also put your hand in the enclosure a few minutes every day so he gets used to your smell in his territory and knows not to panic. Also, treats! Uromastyx love lentils and dandelions, you can handfeed them to help get him used to associating your hands with a positive action!

What proper size aquarium or plastic polyurethane cage is big enough too house a fully grown adult and can I use radiant heat panels as well in conjunction with UVB light's and hot spot light controlled by herpstatts? Of course he or she would have a a cool side too escape too as well with a hideway box...
@noahnk18762 жыл бұрын
Depends on the local of uro, some only get 1ft and only need a 4 x 2 x 2, others get 30 inches and need a 8 x 3 x 3 as a minimum. A radiant heat panel can help support ambient temps but shouldn't be what you use to create the basking spot, for that you'll need a series of incandescent bulbs, like 2-3 halogens in combination with a neodinium floodlight like the exo Terra daylight basking bulb to provide high lux visible light on top of the infa-red light that the halogens are providing. These lights should also overlap with your UVB lamp so that way the basking zone is not only the brightest and hottest spot, but the spot with the highest available UVI as well.

@@noahnk1876 thanks for the response and recommendation! Not familiar with lizards at all whatsoever for the most part! I'm starting too utilize UVB basking lights and UVB strip lights for some of my snakes as well!

I would like to find a baby captive bred yellow,but I only see field collected ones on all the websites. They are only like $50-65 dollars. I did find a place that had captive bred reds but they were alot more .a baby is $225.The adults are not as expensive though and they are tame. Red adults are $125.I would really like a baby though .
