Next video will be a couple of chases in Texas and Alabama. (Yes, Alabama, I finally did it lol) but will be disguised as an educational video regarding Correlation Coefficient and how Tornado warnings are issued. Discord!: discord.gg/bNMVrjf Twitter!: twitter.com/ScienceOutThere

Thanks Michael, Info-stacked as usual! Really helps me to remember where to look and how to find constellations and other points of interest when I'm watching the night sky. (Unfortunately I dont have a telescoop, so I have to rely on my glasses) Also, A while ago I stumbled on a video of your Ghost town series and I've been watching your videos ever since. Im really happy to have found you (your channel). I love nature and the outdoors. At the moment, my study (and now corona) keeps me indoors. If I have the money and the time I'm gonna visit the places you mentioned in your videos! Thanks again :)

I'll be 65 in June and I still go outside every clear night that I can, looking for satellites or just the constellations hoping to catch a meteor. I learned the constellations as a kid with some star charts. I love just being out at night pondering how tiny a part we are in the universe.

Yeah I always get the m101 & m51 flipped. Silly position in the sky. Vega will be the next north star. In like 10-20 thousand yrs? I'll be dead. We've taught Boy Scouts, the Public how to find Polaris. Yep, using that exact method. Cause it's easy to remember. Astronomers trick or tip to another: You can also use Ursa Minor to get how dark your night sky is to the north. When it's up high enough. If you see all the stars easy it's at 6mag (bottom inside bucket star & stars around it are 6mag), if you see 3/4 stars 5.5mag and if you see half the stars then 5.0mag. If the only stars you see are Polaris/Kochab or barely. Mag3-2, Ouch. Not prefect, but simple enough. One of the easy ways of getting a night sky's darkness. Remembering certain constellations guide stars that go to magnitude 6. When it's up high enough. Then you'll know. Ursa Minor is one of those constellations. Going from 2 to 6 magnitudes in darkness.

When does the big bear look up at the star? In June sometime do you know which day?
@scienceoutthere3 жыл бұрын
It rotates around the North Star in a fixed position and is always looking 90 degrees away from it. Unless you have another star in mind.

LOL another school boy that designed a flag! That reminds me of Robert Heft who designed the current American flag, at the age of seventeen, for a school project.

@@scienceoutthere I only just happened onto this video. You're from Michigan as well?? I live in NTX now and I always have a hard time finding the big dipper now, let alone the little dipper. I used to be able to just glace outside and find them both while living in the boondocks of MI. Nowadays down here I seem to be only be able to find the big dipper when I really look for it. Orion -- can find super easily.
