Fun fact, those Mapuche bonuses also apply to conquered city states. I've always felt Mapuche was one of the easier civs to play because all you have to do is swordsman rush a city state and you're on autopilot for the rest of the game.

I had accidentally stumbled on the anarchy mechanic when I was first watching your vids. Was trying to do an oligarchy to republic switch that I had seen you do in another video, however I had started in Republic and so was hit with the Anarchy prompt. Decided to just go with it and things still turned out fine in the end.

Mapuche versus deity plus plus with Bears Governor mod might be a sight to behold. All those extra settlers that the AI gets means more conquerable cities. The bonus to combat power when the AI is in a golden age would also help you to hold your ground in the early stages

Sometimes people forget that domination games can be much easier if you let the ai settle - more land for you to acquire!

Only halfway through the video but I just wanted to share a fun fact: Mapuche's +10 combat strength works for religious units as well!
@Dutch_is_a_Weird_LanguageКүн бұрын
I generally do not dislike Mapuche, but I absolutely *hate* the +10 CS vs. Golden Age players. An ability that actively *punishes another player for doing well* feels like a bad design decision. That coupled with the negative Loyalty effects of their Governors easily make Mapuche one of the worst neighbours to have.
@UrsaRyan20 сағат бұрын
You see I quite like the mechanic - effectively you have a civ that gets stronger against people doing well, the great leveller, a bit like Peter's ability. Quite a clever see-saw mechanic imo
@Dutch_is_a_Weird_Language15 сағат бұрын
Peter's ability differs in that Russia still has to put in effort to take advantage of that bonus by keeping positive relations with those Civilizations and investing in trading infrastructure. Swift Hawk is just there, a middle finger taunting you. If anything, it's more like John Curtin's ability. The part that boosts CS against Free Cities, however, on that I agree that it's clever, because it theoretically synergizes with Mapuche abilities into an actual strategy: ravage an enemy's lands, kill their soldiers, have their cities revolt because of the Loyalty hits and Governor influence, and then attack those Free Cities with a powerful boost and, because it is now a Free City, no additional Grievances.

@@UrsaRyan Already is proving useful as I realize that I try too hard to incorporate it all. I wouldn't have declared the surprise war, and would have instead just let them settle so u could steal it and potentially use it with a governor. It's obviously a bad call composted to getting a better city placement, and delay may have resulted in a much tougher fight. But that's the type of mistake I always make trying too hard to use Mapuche's abilities without paying attention to over-all strategy. Watching the video really helped me identify that being the problem!
